WWE Smackdown October 29: Monster Mash, Opportunity Strikes

Undertaker Funeral

Another awesome promo by Kane, and it was great to see it open up the show.

Having Alberto Del Rio interrupt was fine, but why not Mysterio then Del Rio? When Del Rio and Kane fought, the crowd had no reaction since the two are both heels.

United States Champion Daniel Bryan def. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler (non-title)

Yet another great addition to the series between these two. But it just didn't have same the feel as the match at Bragging Rights, because this is the third time we've seen it go down exactly the same way.

I'm a little shocked that Bryan won again and made Ziggler look weak. Wouldn't it make sense to give Ziggler the win and unify the titles at Wrestlemania?

Overall, though, spectacular match.

Jack Swagger def. Kaval

Solid match-up. Kaval hit some very nice spots, and these two work well together. The finish was pretty decent and could have gone either way, but I'm glad Swagger picked up a pushing win.

What is up with Kaval's losing streak? He still has his title shot, so why push him further down to a jobber? Unless this is leading somewhere, I'm all against it.

Kelly Kelly, Brie Bella, Nikki Bella and Melina def. Alicia Fox, Michelle McCool, Layla and Rosa Mendes

One word: Pointless. Both the match and the costume contest preceding it. The contest was terrible and short, and the match was no different. It was only used to get them on TV.

Big Show and Kofi Kingston def. "Dashing" Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre

Mediocre match. Boring, as I can't recall what happened. It didn't catch me at all. Reason? Neither team has any chemistry.

By the way, what was the point of this Rhodes and McIntyre team in the first place, if they were simply going to break up one month later?

If the WWE plans on making them dominant tag team champs, it should at least keep them a team. Smackdown is filled with heels, and the tag division sucks.

Edge def. Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio (Triple Threat Match for the No. 1 Contendership to the World Heavyweight Championship)

Without a doubt, the match of the night. It was well-hyped, electrifying, and included all the right people. Everyone hit his major spots, and it was very suspenseful.

Logical and perfect move to give the win to Edge, and I'm psyched.

It leaves the Mysterio-Del Rio feud to linger until Survivor Series, and it gives Edge that major main event title match he desperately needed on RAW. Awesome finish.

Final Review

Great show, with solid in-ring action, excluding the Divas contest. It was the perfect follow-up to Bragging Rights, and it helped to hype Survivor Series well.

This show introduced several potential matches for Survivor Series, so we'll see where it goes from here.

As for Edge, he is on fire. I, among others, are loving it. His matches are getting better, his fan reactions are getting better, and his push is going to the moon! He has yet to lose a match on Smackdown!

Tune in to Smackdown in the following weeks to see how well this Edge-Kane feud progresses.
