NFL Picks for Week 8: Predictions for Every Game
Last week I picked and gave my analysis for every game and went 6-3 and hope to keep my good luck with more key picks this week.
Enjoy!
*NOTE: The Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens and Atlanta Falcons all have a bye week in Week 8.
Property of CBSSports, B/R and the National Football League.
New Orleans Saints vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
1 of 7
Analysis
The Saints are coming off a really embarrassing loss to Cleveland, while the Steelers are riding high after a blown call win over the Dolphins.
Key Matchup(s)
Saints RB Chris Ivory vs. the Steelers secondary
While just two weeks ago Ivory ran for 165 yards, last week he only ran 48 yards. This week he goes against a tough Steelers secondary that is first in the league at run defense allowing just 68 yards a game on the ground.
Player of the Game
NO: Drew Brees gets the player of the game with 270 yards passing and 3 TDs which are all in the second half.
Final Score: *NO 34, PIT 27
Drew Brees is happy again.
Washington Redskins vs. Detroit Lions
2 of 7
Analysis
The Redskins are coming off a sluggish win over the Bears, while the Lions are coming off a bye week with Matt Stafford back from a Week 1 injury.
Key Matchup(s)
Redskins RB Ryan Torain vs. the Lions rush defense
The lions are horrible against the run, allowing 138 yards a game, and it will get much worse this week against a Redskins back who has rushed for 100+ yards in each of the past two games.
Lions QB, Matthew Stafford vs. the Redskins pass defense
The Redskins are dead-last in the league in yards allowed to the opposing passing game and the Lions should have a big advantage with that right? Wrong. Matt will probably be in a pass frenzy and get a lot of yards and touchdowns, but the Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall, who picked off Jay Cutler four times last week, could be hungry for even more this week.
Player of the Game
Ryan Torain will be rush happy this week and will pick up 130 yards on the ground and a score.
Final Score: *WAS 27, DET 19
In the end the Torain train can not be stopped.
St. Louis Rams vs. Carolina Panthers
3 of 7
Analysis
The Panthers have looked just plain awful this year, but finally pulled through for their first victory last week vs. the 49ers, while the Rams have looked far better than last year with the addition of Sam Bradford.
Key Matchup(s)
Rams RB Steven Jackson vs. Panthers rush defense
Steven Jackson has been having a up and down year so far but he will wipe away any cries this week as he faces a Panthers defense that allows 120 rushing yards a game on average. The Panthers need to bulk up on their run protection to even think of stopping Steven Jackson.
Player of the Game
Steven Jackson, as I said before, can not be stopped and will have a crazy day rushing for 135 yards and two scores.
Final Score: *CAR 20, STL 18
The emergence of Matt Moore.
Game of the Week: Denver Broncos vs. San Francisco 49ers (England)
4 of 7
Analysis
The Broncos are coming off maybe the biggest embarrasment in NFL history losing to the Oakland Raiders 59-14, while the 49ers are coming off yet another loss but this one to the winless Panthers.
Key Matchup(s)
Broncos QB Kyle Orton vs. 49ers pass defense
Kyle Orton has been unforgettable this year throwing for an average of 290 yards a a game and it should get a little harder this week against a 49ers defense that ranks 15th in the league in pass defense allowing opponents to 215 yards a game on average.
Player of the Game
It was a little hard to pick, but I think Vernon Davis gets player of the game. He will have six receptions for 80 yards and a score from Troy Smith.
Final Score: *DEN 35, SF 31
Troy Smith can't overcome the strength of the Broncos passing game even in Europe.
Oakland Raiders vs. Seattle Seahawks
5 of 7
Analysis
The Raiders are coming off their biggest win in team history, 59-14 over Denver, while the Seahawks are still happy about their 12-point victory over Arizona.
Key Matchup(s)
Raiders RB Darren McFadden vs. Seahawks rush defense
Darren McFadden showed everybody what he could do last week against Denver rushing for 165 yards on just 16 carries and three scores while the Seahawks defense has been giving up 72.5 yards a game this year. This should be a big factor in this one.
Player of the Game
Darren will run all over them again with 120 yards and two scores.
Final Score: *OAK 30, SEA 24 (Overtime)
Run game....period.
Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Dallas Cowboys
6 of 7
Analysis
The Cowboys have been a disappointment all year, and with the loss of Tony Romo things should get worse, and the Jaguars after starting the year off 3-2 having lost in two straight by a combined score of 72-23.
Key Matchup(s)
Jaguars running game vs. Cowboys run defense
The Jags average 127 yards on the ground this season, but things could get a little tougher against the Cowboys defense that allows 99 yards a game on average.
Player of the Game
Todd Bouman is this week's player of the game with 250 yards passing and three scores.
Final Score: *JAC 34, DAL 17
All I can say for Dallas fans is look at that picture up there.
