Georges St. Pierre: In Search of My Superhero

Dorothy WillisAug 23, 2008

Yes, I have already admitted that my search for my superhero Georges St. Pierre has led me astray. I wrote possibly six articles on the other site before feeling so much guilt and remorse for my unfaithfulness that I had to return to the safety of my home.

Well, here I am. Confused, contrite, and ready to write.

While I have been gone it has been confirmed that GSP and BJ Penn will be fighting in a Super Bowl type fight at the end of January. The "where" is still up in the air, as far as I know.

Those who have been clamoring for the fight are doubtlessly filled with joy at the prospect of a tremendously full and exciting sports weekend in front of the tube with a variety of Super Bowl treats—from the local deli section of their favorite supermarket if nowhere else.

People are speculating that the card will hold Brock Lesnar, the closest fighter to a football lineman in looks. He is slated to fight the ever popular "TBA" so I can't fill in the rest of the card for MMA purists just yet.

Wouldn't it be lovely to have Matt Hughes and Matt Serra on the card as well; kind of like "killing two birds with one stone," so to speak. Hughes has said he would not be physically ready for the fight until next year, and this would certainly fulfill that requirement.

Like all bloodthirsty fans waiting for GSP vs. Penn, I have long-hungered for the true finale of the UFC TUF 6 series, and by now I am truly starving for it. As with the Penn fans, the result may not be as expected (I am hoping for a Serra win), but at least it will all be over at last!

Somehow my New Year's resolution will have to reflect that I intend to be much more patient in all matters concerning MMA in 2009. If it is worth having at all, it is worth waiting for—amen!

Just like Dorothy in The Wizard of OZ, it is so good to be home.
