Lions-Redskins: Detroit Will Take Washington in NFL's Biggest Week 8 Upset

James BrownOct 26, 2010

Every week in the NFL, an upset is going to happen; this year they seem to be happening at an alarming rate. Not only are underdogs winning outright, but they are shocking the league. Last week it was the Cleveland Browns that pulled off the shocker as they beat the New Orleans Saints in the Big Easy as double-digit underdogs. This week it will happen again.

In Week 8, the Detroit Lions will beat the Washington Redskins.

The latest NFL betting lines as released by BetMania have the Washington Redskins listed as two point road chalk in this contest. The line should be the first indication that the Lions will put up a fight.

The Lions only have one win on the season, but they put a fight against some of the better teams in the league and went toe to toe with the likes of the Eagles, Packers and Giants.

The Redskins are a surprising 4-3 on the season and they are off a road win against the Bears that was essentially gift-wrapped to them by Jay Cutler. The Redskins should have lost that game. The numbers would indicate that they struggle defensively—they are ranked No. 31 in the NFL in total defense.

The Lions are off a bye, and more importantly, they are healthy again. Quarterback Matthew Stafford has been cleared and he will get the start in this game. This will improve an explosive offense that surprisingly ranks No. 10 in the league in scoring. DeAndre Levy returns on defense to give the Lions a leader in the middle linebacker spot, and the bye could not have come at a better time.

The Redskins are 6-18-3 against the spread (ATS) against a team with a losing record and 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 games on turf. The Lions are 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall and 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games as a home favorite of 0.5-3.0. The Lions are well rested and will move the ball on a suspect Washington Redskin defense.

The Lions notch their second win of the season by pulling off an upset in Week 8 and taking down the Redskins.
