Week 8 NFL Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Advice: Get 'em or Don't Sweat 'em

Ryan LesterOct 26, 2010

There were some unusual heroes on Sunday. There always are. Let’s take a look at them and see if they are worthy of your fantasy rosters.

Quarterbacks

Kerry Collins, Tennessee Titans

Collins threw for 276 with three TDs, all to Kenny Britt. He also had two INTs. It’s still Vince Young’s team so your best move is to look elsewhere.

Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buffalo Bills

After throwing four TDs against the Ravens, I think it’s time to take Fitzpatrick serious. He threw for 374 yards in the process. He has multiple TD passes in all four games that he’s played in, including seven in the past two weeks.

Ruling: Get ‘em.

Running Back

LeGarrette Blount, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Blount had 72 yards on 11 carries.  Cadillac Williams scored the TD. Blount has yet to become part of the passing game, but he’s clearly the primary runner at this point.

Ruling: Get ‘em.

Wide Receivers

Jordan Shipley, Cincinnati Bengals

Shipley caught all six of his targets for 131 yards and a score. Great game, but he’s still fourth fiddle behind T.O., Ocho and Benson.

Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Davone Bess, Miami Dolphins

Bess scored for the third straight week. He caught six passes (seven targets) for 66 yards. He has 25 catches in his last four games.

Ruling: Get ‘em.

David Gettis, Carolina Panthers

Gettis had a big game, hauling in a pair of TDs while catching eight passes for 125 yards. It’s hard to rely on Carolina’s passing game though. I’d like to see a little more proof before I endorse him.

Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Mike Williams, Seattle Seahawks

If, for some reason, your league let Mike Williams stay in your free agent pool, it’s time to snatch him up now. He has 21 catches in the past two weeks for 210 yards and a score.

Ruling: Get ‘em.

James Jones, Green Bay Packers

Jones had four catches for 107 yards, but he still hasn’t met his expectations. Make him prove he can be a consistent threat before you add him.

Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Tight Ends

David Thomas, New Orleans Saints

Thomas caught three passes for 33 yards and a score. He’s not a consistent enough performer for fantasy teams though.

Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots

Gronkowski caught his third TD pass of the year, but has just nine catches for 96 yards. He’s not a fantasy factor right now.

Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
