Washington Redskins: One Good Turnover Deserves Another in 'Skins Win

Brandon KeenerOct 24, 2010

Well, well, well. I guess Faith Hill was right on this one. She picked the Redskins to beat the Bears this weekend and it looks like she sang the right tune.

Turnover after turnover riddled this game with more indigestion than a Italian restaurant for both teams. DeAngelo Hall really stepped up his game this week, picking off four passes in the second half, which ties the record for interceptions in a game.

On the other hand, this game looked more like Friday Night Fights on ESPN than Sunday afternoon football. Charles Tillman of the Chicago Bears seemed to be punching at the ball more than attempting to tackle.

Listening to Troy Aikman call the game on television was almost sickening. He continued to complain about DeAngleo Hall's celebration after his 92-yard pick six, then again after he made his fourth interception of the second half. This begs the question, do former players really make the best color commentators to call games on Sunday?

Without further delay here is this week's Gameday Grades:

QB: C. Sorry but McNabb threw a couple of interceptions and missed some pretty wide open passes. Oh, not to mention the pick six as he was falling down.

RB: B+. This is easily an A without the fumble. Of course, the helmet to helmet hit on Torain should have been called too.

FB: B. I can't give him any credit unless the McNabb actually checks down to Mike Sellers a few times. But good blocking again as usual.

WR: B. Most of the catchable passes were caught, there were a few adjustments that should have been made on a few routes, but no worse than Johnny Knox was running all day.

TE: A. Chris Cooley was making clutch catches all day and the awareness to push the fumbled ball out of bounds after, yet another, Charles Tillman punch was right on. Take the penalty instead of the turnover.

OL: C. They allowed plenty of room for the running game but not much time for pass protection. They have to give McNabb more time, flat out. Artis Hick always needs to take the inside block before taking the outside block (see the untouched "almost" sack Pisa Tinoisamoa).

DL: B+. They did a pretty good job of putting pressure on Jay Cutler early like they needed to, and you could tell he was thinking about them all game.

LB: A. London Fletcher was everywhere. Brian Orakpo got two more sacks, seven now for the season. Rocky McIntosh created a critical fumble by Matt Forte late in the game. All of them did great.

CB: A. This one was easy. Doesn't matter how good or bad the rest of the squad was, DeAngelo Hall made up for it. A record tying day made it well worth watching. Philip Buchanon continues to blow some coverages and you could see LaRon Landry trying to talk to him about it on the sideline after the Johnny Knox touchdown. They did a pretty good job of taking away Cutler's looks all game.

S: A. Aside from the hilarious football off the face mask of Landry the back end played good. Landry just wanted to hit people, like always, and that is why he leads the NFL in tackles.

K: D. Graham Gano missed another late game field goal...but he did make one that was longer earlier in the game. I'll just pass a note to Coach Shanahan, if Gano needs to kick a field goal, make sure it is in the first half.

P: C. Hunter Smith did a great job of keeping the ball away from Devin Hester all day but kicking it a little deeper would have been preferred before it went out of bounds.

Return Game: C. About an average performance for the offensive and defensive side of all the return games. Hester only returned a punt so no need to grade that. The kickoffs that were returned were handled pretty effectively.

Brandon Banks tried to run more sideline to sideline than downhill in this game and it showed in his effectiveness. If there is one thing he could have learned from watching Antwaan Randle El film it is not running sideline to sideline.

Coaching: ?. I don't even know how to grade them this week. With so many turnovers I'm sure the game plan went out the window and they just started picking a card and hoping for the best.

One thing I would change: On 3rd-and-1, quit running it up the middle. Every team in the NFL knows that the Redskins, no matter who the coach is, no matter who the running back is, no matter who the quarterback is they will run the ball up the middle on 3rd-and-1. Ever wonder why the third down percentage is so bad?

Well Redskins fans it looks like we have another week to talk about good things and look forward to a road game against the Lions next week who are currently sitting at the bottom of the NFC North.

Just another ugly win for the Redskins but like we have talked about all season. Ugly wins sure make a pretty "W" in the column. See you next week. Hail!
