MMA Results: Strikeforce Challengers 11 From Fresno (Oct. 22)

Jeff D GormanOct 23, 2010

Bobby Voelker avenged a previous loss to Roger Bowling as the welterweights clashed in the main event of Strikeforce Challengers 11, on Oct. 22 in Fresno, Calif.

Voelker stuffed Bowling’s takedown attempts in Round Two before opening up the offense and scoring a TKO.

Fresno’s own Billy Evangelista won the fight of the night over Waachim Spirit Wolf in a 165-pound catchweight bout.

The first round was an exciting exchange of haymakers and knee strikes. Spirit Wolf scored with a nice takedown in Round Two, but visibly tired as the round continued.

Round Three was a testament to Spirit Wolf’s will, and he ate a ton of offense from Evangelista, who won by unanimous decision.

Julia Budd was very impressive in her pro debut, using her size advantage to smother Shana “Rock Solid” Olsen. Budd ground-and-pounded Olsen to score a TKO win at 2:51 of Round Two.

Lavar “Big” Johnson took a step forward in Strikeforce’s heavyweight division, battering Virgil Zwicker for his seventh knockout win in a row.

In the opening battle of heavyweights, John Devine used his All-American wrestling skills to dominate Brandon Cash. Devine won the fight in 3:05 with a rear naked choke.

The next Strikeforce Challengers show is scheduled for Nov. 19 in Jackson, Miss., with Justin “The Silverback” Wilcox headlining against Victor “Shaolin” Ribeiro. The card will air on Showtime.
