Player Duels: Steven Gerrard Vs Frank Lampard

Today's duel sees two of Europe's best midfielders go head to head: Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

Both have fantastic engines, wonderful vision and passing, and are among of the best shooters in England. It has been said that they can't play together for England, so here they go against each other. Who is better?

Steven Gerrard

"Captain Fantastic" to the Liverpool faithful, Stevie G has been one of the Premier League's leading midfielders for the past seven years or so, repeatedly coming to Liverpool's aid when they need him most. Who could forget that goal against Olympiakos (OOH YOU BEAUTY!!), the first in the 2005 Champions League comeback, and "the Gerrard Final" for the 2006 FA Cup.

He has been captain of Liverpool since 2003, and has guided them to an FA Cup, a League Cup and a Champions League since then. He has won numerous individual awards included PFA Player of the Year, PFA Young Player of the Year and has been nominated for World Player of the Year on three occasions.

His overall career stats are 96 goals in 432 appearances, all of which have come for Liverpool. He has also won 68 England caps, scoring 13 goals. He is already widely regarded as one of the best midfielders Liverpool have ever had.

Frank Lampard

No Chelsea midfielder has scored more goals for the Blues than Frank Lampard. He also holds the record for consecutive Premier League matches played with 164. He started off at West Ham as part of their superb youth team.

In his time at Chelsea he has won two Premier Leagues, an FA Cup, and two League Cups. He was the main driving force in Jose Mourinho's consecutive League wins with Chelsea, and has been a talisman of Chelsea for a number of years.

His overall career stats are 151 goals in 566 appearances. He has also won 62 caps for England, finding the net 14 times.
