Brett Favre Investigation: Latest News Has NFL Working at Snails Pace

Erik YostOct 20, 2010

The latest on the Brett Favre investigation has come to fruition as the woman at the center point of the situation, Jenn Sterger, has decided to hire a lawyer.

According to ESPN, Sterger, after "much deliberation",has decided to hire Long Island based law firm, LaRusso and Conway to assist her in further handling of the situation at hand. The law firm said they will "pursue any potential remedies that may exist."

This comes after the NFL had interviewed with Favre on Tuesday regarding his involvement in the recent reports from Deadspin.com over voice mails and graphic photos sent to Sterger when she was working with the New York Jets in 2008.

Nothing new was released from the NFL regarding Favre outside that he met with officials and that the context of the interview will be further reviewed.

The real question comes into play with Sterger's hiring of a lawyer is will she cooperate with NFL officials in their investigation? Sterger has already declined to comment over the alleged reports and is seemingly reluctant to partake in the entire process.

Until the NFL is given permission to speak with Sterger, the league pretty much as their hands tied as they need to hear her side of the story to pursue any further investigation on Favre's conduct. Without her cooperation, Favre is likely to escape any serious ramifications from the allegations outside his own personal embarrassment.

This investigation is likely to become a non-issue very soon if the NFL cannot continue with their investigation. Sterger's reluctance and lack of comment may indicate she rather put this behind her and move on. If she chose to cooperate, she would have to go through the hassle of a several week investigation and inquiry from the NFL and media.

All in all, it seems that the Brett Favre saga might be coming to an end sooner rather than later. The NFL will have to keep treading water until they get enough information to continue or decide to just move on from the situation.
