The Bottom Line: NFL Week 6 Thoughts

San Francisco 49ers

Got their first win of the year and it was against a terrible Raiders team. Gore finally became effective running the ball, Crabtree made an impact and Smith didn’t throw an interception. These are the keys to becoming relevant again and they can continue the trend next Sunday against the woeful Panthers. The 49ers aren’t very good, but they’re not totally out of the NFC West race. With games remaining against the Rams (two), Seahawks, Cardinals (two), Panthers, Bucs and the Broncos. All eight are winnable, but the 49ers need to execute and take care of the football. If this is done, the 49ers have a legitimate shot at the NFC West Title.

The Bottom Line: Don’t count the 49ers out yet.

Pittsburgh Steelers

This team is scary, very scary. Their defense was already dominating, the running game was good and Roethlisberger showed the league why he makes them even better. Harrison and Polamalu have the defense firing on all cylinders and Mendenhall has the running game clicking, and with Roethlisberger back defenses can’t stack the box in hopes of stopping Mendenhall. If they do, Roethlisberger can go deep to Mike Wallace or hit Hines Ward and Heath Miller over the middle. Barring any injuries, this team strikes fear into everyone in the NFL.

The Bottom Line: The Steelers may be my pick to win the Super Bowl this season.

San Diego Chargers

Wow, this team has been a true disappointment this season. I knew Norv was a terrible coach, but wow. He really screwed up a good thing in San Diego. Their running game struggles while their former star LaDainian Tomlinson is shining bright with the Jets. The Chargers defense can’t stop anyone, not even the Raiders. And their receiving core continues to be depleted. Injuries to Gates, Floyd and Naane really give Rivers terrible options at receiver. I bet A.J. Smith is kicking himself right about now for screwing over Vincent Jackson.

The Bottom Line: I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Chargers miss the playoffs if they don’t turn things around soon.

This is just an opinion…so please Pardon My Bias.
