BCS Week 7 Report: Oklahoma No. 1 In The First BCS Poll
The Oklahoma Sooners are number 3 in both the AP and Coaches polls. The AP is not a part of the BCS formula and can you blame them? However the computer rankings tabulated their formula, the third best team in two major polls now controls their own destiny in the BCS.
The Oregon Ducks are the number 1 team in the AP and Coaches polls. Add in those wacky computer rankings and they drop to number 2 in the BCS. Like Oklahoma, Oregon now controls their own destiny.
That might not be a guarantee though. You would think that if both Oklahoma and Oregon both win their remaining games then they would play for the national title. TCU might be able to pass them if they beat an undefeated Utah team.
It looks like Boise State will again be the odd team out. Nevada's loss to Hawaii hurts Boise State. Kellen Moore and the Broncos would have preferred that Nevada stayed undefeated and ranked when they met at the end of the season.
The BCS is so quirky that Boise State might be able to move past Oklahoma if the Broncos beat Utah State soundly since the Sooners barely got past them to start their season.
Bob Stoops and the Sooners have nothing to apologize for. They took Florida State to the woodshed in a nationally televised game. The OU offense, led by Landry Jones, is as explosive as when Sam Bradford was the quarterback.
The other big story was the lethargic Ohio State Buckeyes that went to Wisconsin and were dismantled by the Badgers. I do not have a lot to complain about as a Buckeye fan. The one knock that is persistent is that this team will not be ready to play in a big game from time to time. Wisconsin was ready for a brawl and the Buckeyes didn't join in until the third quarter after it was 21-3.
Terrelle Pryor looked a step slow and the Buckeye defense, with a three point deficit in the fourth quarter, could not make a pivotal stop when the team needed it.
Another big story is that the Florida Gators are on a three game losing streak after their loss to Mississippi State. Urban Meyer has never lost three straight in his college coaching career. The post Tim Tebow era was going to be different but for the Gators to struggle like this has been a real surprise.
For the first six weeks I had Ohio State as my top team and Boise State as the number two team. My Top Two will have a shake-up now as the Buckeyes are now playing for a Rose Bowl berth and that is going to be tough since they do not play Michigan State.
Boise State will be my new top team, that is an easy choice. Oklahoma will not be my number two team. The Big 12 is down this year but I don't see the Sooners as a great college football team. The Pac-10 is loaded so the Oregon Ducks will probably go back to the Rose Bowl as the only one loss team in the Pac-10.
