Jerry Jones: The Dallas Cowboys At 1-4 Will Make The Playoffs This Season

Despite the fact that the Cowboys have looked like one of the most undisciplined teams in the NFL, and despite the fact that they started the season at 1-4, there is still hope for America's Team. The Dallas Cowboys will make the playoffs this season.

The bottom line is that the 2010 campaign comes down to this Monday night, in a divisional game against the New York Giants. A Giants team that at the moment is in the midst of a three-game winning streak. For all the talk about this Cowboys team being overrated and making too many mental mistakes, they still have the all-around talent to make a run at a potential playoff spot.

They rank 3rd in the NFL in total offense and 4th in total defense, statistics you wouldn't expect from a team that only has one win through five games. But as many fans and analysts can agree upon, there's a problem with costly turnovers and penalties disrupting the damage that could be made.

Their next five games come home against the above-mentioned Giants, home against a very inconsistent Jaguars, away against an injury-ridden Packers, away against those same Giants, and a home against the miserable Lions. These are five very winnable games and ones that must be won in order for the Cowboys to make another playoff run. 

Instead of focusing on being the first team to ever host a home Super Bowl, they should be approaching each game for the next several weeks as a playoff game. Then, and only then, might we see the team we expected this season. 

The shenanigans with celebrating after gaining first downs, touchdowns, sacks, and tackles for loss need to stop immediately. We must quit pitting all the blame against the coach and start by giving some to the players who love the showboating.

Just like Jerry Jones said today, the Cowboys need to "reel off six, seven ballgames in a row, and we've got to start against New York." 

And just like that the Cowboys can and will make the playoffs this season.
