2010 Fantasy Football Week 7 Rankings: Quarterbacks

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballOct 19, 2010

At one point during the preseason it was reported that the Cleveland Browns were thinking of cutting rookie quarterback Colt McCoy.

McCoy, who was taken in the third round of the draft, had not impressed during the preseason and had dealt with a hand injury.

The team ultimately decided against that, and with injuries to Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace, McCoy earned his first start last week playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He went 23-for-33 for 281 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, and was praised after the game by teammates for having the “it” factor.

Check out our Fantasy Football Week 7 Quarterback Rankings to find out where McCoy, as well as the rest of the quarterbacks, rank this week.

1. Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) vs. Cleveland

Finally, the Drew Brees we’ve come to expect has made an appearance. The New Orleans Saints quarterback went 21-for-32 for 263 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in a blowout win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week.

Remember, Brees also had slow starts in 2007 and 2008, so it’s like this was uncharted territory.

This week’s game at home against the Cleveland Browns represents a great opportunity for Brees to continue playing well. The Browns are giving up an average of 229 passing yards and almost two touchdowns a game.

Point Projection: 20 points

2. Philip Rivers (San Diego Chargers) vs. New England

Last week was the first time this season San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers didn’t throw two or more touchdowns in a game this season. He still had an okay day in the loss to the St. Louis Rams, throwing for 249 yards with one touchdown and one interception, but it wasn’t quite was owners of Rivers had come to expect.

Consider that during the game receiver Malcom Floyd and tight end Antonio Gates left with injuries, and Rivers was sacked seven times. Gates (toe) is expected to be back for this week’s game against the New England Patriots, but Floyd (hamstring) likely will not be.

Rivers will be fine this week against a New England secondary that’s allowing almost two touchdown passes a game.

Point Projection: 20 points

3. Tom Brady (New England Patriots) @ San Diego

So it doesn’t appear that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is going to miss receiver Randy Moss, who was traded to the Minnesota Vikings two weeks ago. The Patriots acquired Deion Branch from the Seattle Seahawks, and Branch’s best years of his career came when he was a Patriot.

In last week’s overtime win over the Baltimore Ravens, Brady and Branch hooked up nine times for 98 yards and a touchdown. That’s why even without Moss, Brady is going to continue being a top fantasy quarterback, including this week against the San Diego Chargers.

Point Projection: 19 points
