2010 NFL Power Rankings Week 7: Steelers on Top, Bills at The Bottom, and More

Ethan NorofOct 19, 2010

1.Pittsburgh Steelers: 4-1, First AFC North

Roethlisberger is back at the helm and the Steelers are looking as fierce as ever before on both sides of the ball. With a relatively healthy roster and a strong history of success, this team could be at the top all season long.

2.New York Jets: 5-1, First AFC East

The Jets barely came out with a victory against the Broncos this weekend and really didn’t inspire much confidence. RB LaDanian Tomlinson and WR Braylon Edwards continue to be bright spots, but CB Darrelle Revis has been rather vulnerable thus far.

3.Indianapolis Colts: 4-2, T-First AFC South

Although the Colts needed a couple of acrobatic plays to get the victory this weekend, No. 18 continues to prove he is capable of just about anything. So long as the defense is serviceable, this offense can go toe-toe with any other in the NFL.

4.New England Patriots: 4-1, Second AFC East

The Patriots made a statement after the bye week by taking down the Ravens in OT and looked to have no problem adjusting to life without WR Randy Moss. While the defense is beginning to improve, they must improve against third down situations and get off the field.

5.Baltimore Ravens: 4-2, Second AFC North

The game against New England certainly could have gone either way, but the Ravens simply couldn’t get the ground game going. In addition, the defense has looked surprisingly susceptible against the run.

6.New York Giants: 4-2, T-First NFC East

Although they were clearly expected to win against the Lions this week, they still had to get the job done and that’s exactly what they did. If the team can beat the Cowboys next week, they’ll head into a bye with high expectations.

7.Houston Texans: 4-2, T-First AFC South

After a come-from-behind victory against the surprising Chiefs this weekend, the Texans are looking like the offensive juggernaut that so many expected them to be. With a sketchy secondary and a season-ending injury to LB DeMeco Ryans, they’ll have to continue to put up big points.

8.Philadelphia Eagles: 4-2, T-First NFC East

The Eagles look very good coming off a convincing win against a surging Falcons squad, and with no clear favorite in the division they have a very good shot at the playoffs. If Kolb continues to play well, will they have another quarterback controversy?

9.Atlanta Falcons: 4-2, T-First NFC South

The Falcons drop a few spots after a disappointing loss to the Eagles, but this defense is better than they played on Sunday. This is a team that will compete all season long, but the Saints are going to be a tough competitor.

10.New Orleans Saints: 4-2, T-First NFC South

After an embarrassing loss to the Cardinals, the Saints made a statement against the Bucs with a dominant 31-6 victory. Once the team’s lead runners get healthy, they’ll be even better. Having said that, the defense is very beatable.

11.Chicago Bears: 4-2, First NFC North

The Bears still look somewhat inconsistent, but there’s no doubt that Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz has brought the big play back to the offense. With the team looking to run away with the division, they’ll have to keep bringing it.

12.Miami Dolphins: 3-2, Third AFC East

The Dolphins surprised a lot of people with their OT victory over the Packers this week, but this team looked good. QB Chad Henne got the ball to WR Brandon Marshall and the running game was very effective.

13.Green Bay Packers: 3-3, Second NFC North

The Packers are dealing with a slew of injuries and officially lost elite TE Jermichael Finley for the season this week. Aaron Rodgers will have to play up to his highest potential in order to keep this team winning as the season moves forward.

14.Tennessee Titans: 4-2, T-First AFC South

This defense continues to play much better than anyone expected, but this team will only go as far as CJ2K can take them. If Kerry Collins is forced into significant action, it could get ugly.

15.Kansas City Chiefs: 3-2, First AFC West

Although the Chiefs blew the game late against the Texans, Kansas City looks very good and is the early favorite to win the division. With an improving defense and a very strong running game, the Chiefs are going to be a tough opponent for the opposition each week.

16.Washington Redskins: 3-3, Third NFC East

Although the Redskins have been rather up and down, they were very close to a 4-2 start after a tough loss to the Colts. With RB Ryan Torain revitalizing the ground attack and QB Donovan McNabb controlling the offense, the Redskins have reason for cautious optimism.

17.St. Louis Rams: 3-3, Third NFC West

Before Sam Bradford took over this season, the Rams were 3-36 over the last three years. It’s safe to say they’ve found a franchise quarterback, and with RB Steven Jackson healthy, this is a very good offense.

18.San Diego Chargers: 2-4, T-Second AFC West

The Chargers are notoriously slow starters, but they’re looking very slow this season. With TE Antonio Gates looking like he’ll be out a while, it could be a rather tough season for the Bolts.

19.Denver Broncos: 2-4, T-Second AFC West

A very tough loss to the Jets has the Broncos at 2-4, but this team continues to bring it on a weekly basis. Without a real running game, opposing defenses will be able to sit on QB Kyle Orton and the pass.

20.Seattle Seahawks: 3-2, T-First NFC West

The Seahawks ground game is sure to benefit from the acquisition of RB Marshawn Lynch and the defense should continue to get better as the season moves on. In a very winnable NFC West, the Seahawks could pull a stunner.

21.Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 3-2, Third NFC South

The Bucs were absolutely shellacked by the Saints this week. As long as the team remains susceptible on the defensive side and without a true ground attack, their success will remain of the short-term variety.

22.Jacksonville Jaguars: 3-3, Fourth AFC South

David Garrard and Trent Edwards could easily be the worst QB pairing in the league. This is a team that seems to go 7-9 no matter how they start.

23.Minnesota Vikings: 2-3, Third NFC North

Randy Moss has still never lost to the Cowboys in his career, and the Vikings don’t look ready to fold just quite yet. With a good defense and an explosive offense, the Vikings could use this for momentum and string together a few wins.

24.Dallas Cowboys: 1-4, Fourth NFC East

A Super Bowl favorite? Ha! The Cowboys have been their own biggest enemy and have continually shot themselves in the leg with penalties in each contest. If they can stop beating themselves, perhaps they can focus on taking down the opposition.

25.Arizona Cardinals: 3-2, T-First NFC West

Not much changes during the bye week for the Cardinals, and their situation at quarterback continues to be one of the worst in the league.

26.Oakland Raiders: 2-4, T-Second AFC West

The Raiders have looked impressive at times, but then have looked equally as bad at other times. QB Jason Campbell is clearly not the answer.

27.Cincinnati Bengals: 2-3, Third AFC North

Hopefully this team used the bye week to put in some practice, because the whole league knows that they could certainly use it.

28.San Francisco 49ers: 1-5, Fourth NFC West

The 49ers could certainly be sitting prettier than they currently are, but hopefully the offense continues to produce like it has the last couple of weeks.

29.Detroit Lions: 1-5, Fourth NFC North

Going into a bye week, the Lions are scheduled to get starting QB Matt Stafford back when they get back into the action. It couldn’t be coming sooner.

30.Cleveland Browns: 1-5, Fourth AFC North

The Browns are looking like they’re headed for another top five pick under Eric Mangini.

31.Carolina Panthers: 0-5, Fourth NFC South

The best thing they could have done was put Matt Moore back under center even sooner.

32.Buffalo Bills: 0-5, Fourth AFC East

Did anyone even notice that the Bills had a bye this week?
