Philadelphia Flyers Have a Weekend to Forget

Dominic PerilliOct 18, 2010

When I was a little tyke, I had two enormous fears: getting coal in my stocking and seeing the Flyers getting manhandled by the Penguins.

Well, thanks to my parents, just one of those fears was realized so far.

As you all may or may not know, our beloved Flyers were indeed demolished by the oh-so-hated Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

Watching Sidney Crosby score two goals in a game is like watching the fattest dude in your gym class get naked and pole vault. Yeah, that bad...

While I know you are dying of laughter right now (or not), I'm here to say that things will only get better for the Flyers. I was sure that the Penguins wouldn't drop two in a row to us.

The power play continues to be a problem for the Flyers. Only about nine percent of our power plays are ending with goals. The league average is around 17 percent.

The PP was not the only problem that haunted the Flyers on that Godforsaken Saturday. Soft defense and below average goaltending were also to blame. Our newly acquired stud goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky let four goals sail by him in 31 chances—not a very good thing. However, a majority of those goals were from deflections.

All that aside, each element of the team deserves to take a portion of the blame.

Thursday will be a fun game to watch as the Flyers take on the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks happen to be my second favorite team, but at 7 PM on Thursday, they will take the form of the Poopsburgh Penguins.

The Ducks are a solid team, but the Flyers must attack Jonas Hiller early, and they have to contain the puck in the offensive zone. If the Ducks can repeatedly put pressure on the Flyers' defense, they can kiss their...butts goodbye.
