Another #1 Bites the Dust
With Ohio State’s 31-18 loss at Wisconsin, the Buckeyes became the 2nd #1 ranked team to fall in 2 weeks. A loss at this point in the season all but rules out the Buckeyes out of the National Championship game. Ohio State dropped to #11 in the AP Poll and it’s gonna take a whole lot of luck to climb into the top 3 by the end of the season. There are 8 undefeated teams ahead of the Buckeyes and I don’t believe all 8 will lose a game by the end of the regular season.

While I’ve never been a big fan of Ohio State, I definitely believe a 1 loss Ohio State team is more deserving of spot in the National Championship game over a Boise State or TCU. And there is no question that if Alabama wins out the rest of this season they deserve a spot in the National Championship game. The Crimson Tide’s schedule includes 7 teams that were ranked in the top 25 at some point this season. In fact, 5 of the 7 have been ranked in the top 10 for at least one week this season. If the Crimson Tide is able to go 6-1 in those games, 11-1 in the season, and if they win the SEC championship then there should be no reservation in giving them a spot in the national championship game. A 1-loss ‘Bama team is more impressive than an undefeated Oregon, Oklahoma, Boise State, or TCU and should be given the spot in the National Championship game.
I have said it before and I’ll say it again, the worst possible match-up for the National Championship game would be Boise State taking on TCU. That match up does not prove anything and both teams are undeserving of a national championship bid. A part of me would love an Alabama- Boise State or even an Oregon/Oklahoma Vs Boise State national championship game just so we could see Boise State demolished and the BCS being thrown out and all the talk about a Boise State/TCU/any other small conference team with a weak schedule being just as good as the proven programs. While it will not be a match-up of this year’s 2 best teams in college, this match-up may do wonders for college football’s future. At this point, if I were to select the two most impressive teams of college football I would have to pick Bama and Oregon. But this is just the midpoint of the season, so many things are possible. Who knows, maybe Boise State and TCU both lose by the end of the season and we never have a conversation like this in the near future.
This is just an opinion…so please Pardon My Bias.
