Four Reasons Why Gilbert Arenas Should Be Dealt To the Charlotte Bobcats

Gilbert Arenas has already caused enough trouble for the Washington Wizards, and I am sure the Wizards have been thinking (hopefully seriously) about moving him in order to totally focus the ย rebuilding around rookie John Wall, and most likely big man Andray Blatche, who was re-signed to a long-term contract this offseason. The bottom line is that Gilbert Arenas, under contract for four more years, and owed a whopping $80M dollars, needs to be sent packing with the sooner the better, even though it could be a difficult process.

The market for Gilbert Arenas is most likely quite small and that is something that might not ever change for at least the next three years. The Wizards have tried moving his massive contract in the past, but the thought of bringing in another large contract in return has been difficult to stomach for obvious reasons.

The issue with Arenas is that he is in a dire need of a change of scene. He has outlasted his welcome in D.C., and it is time for him to move on, and restart his career in a sense. He is coming of three knee operations in two years, and a suspension that kept him out of the second half of the 2009-10 season, which opened the way for changes such as that of moving Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison.

The biggest reason that Arenas should be sent packing is that the Wizards have shown that they are ready to commit to rookie John Wall as being their point guard of the future, and are looking to rebuild around him. A lot of the players on the roster currently may not be with the team in the future, and this would be a good time to start the John Wall Era in Washington.

The Charlotte Bobcats are a team that is seriously lacking a productive point guard that can help out veteran Head Coach Larry Brown in running his style of offense. Former University of Texas product DJ Augustin so far, has not been able to run the offense to Brownโ€™s liking, and that is why he has been suited towards a bench role. Arenas, is a player that might be a step slow on the defensive end, but will open things up on the offensive end and teams will respect his ability to score on the offensive end opening things up for other players on the floor.

Although he does come in with a lot of baggage, this might end up helping the Bobcats turn their franchise around for the better. The way this offseason has gone so far, I am sure that the veteran players on the team are scratching their heads continuously asking themselves who is going to be the starting point guard and primary distributor come opening night.

So, here are five reasons as to why Gilbert Arenas should be wearing a Bobcatsโ€™ uniform.

Reason One: The Bobcats are in need of a point guard as D.J. Augustin is best suited for a bench role as he was not able to keep the starting role under Head Coach Larry Brown. After losing Raymond Felton to the New York Knicks as a free agent, the team tried to acquire Jose Calderon of Toronto twice, but failed to go through with the trade both times.

The bottom line is that the Bobcats do not have a starting point guard at this time, and they must do something about it. Free agency might not bring in a long-term solution, but this is something that the team failed to do so far this offseason, and with the season opener a little more than one week away, it may be difficult to orchestrate a trade.

Arenas, is a player that is very much available, and Wizards General Manager Ted Leonsis may be happy to get a phone call regarding the possibility of moving Arenas elsewhere.

Reason Two: The Bobcats front office appears to be in a phase of indecision. The team pulled out of two potential trades that would have landed them a much needed point guard. Instead, they made a major trade that brought them the contracts of former Bobcat Matt Carroll and Eduardo Najera, which added salary, along with Erick Dampier (who was eventually released saving the team money).

Also, they have not decided yet whether to pick up the options on Gerald Henderson and DJ Augustin. They recently released point guard Javaris Crittenton, and undrafted rookie Sherron Collins is not a lock to grab a roster spot yet.

Reason Four: The Bobcats are in major need of adding an impact player to their roster in order to help turn their future around for the better. Arenas is a former All-Star, and a scorer that could fit in nicely with the Stephen Jackson, Gerald Wallace, Tyrus Thomas, and Nazr Mohammed (assuming that Nazr is not traded this season as he does possess an expiring contract).

Arenas, will be able to provide the offensive spark that the Bobcats need, and would also be able to open things up for Gerald Wallace and Stephen Jackson on the perimeter or maybe even in the paint for Tyrus Thomas. If he is able to do that then Charlotte may be a team that can be a contender for the playoffs in the recent, tougher Eastern Conference.

They have had a quiet offseason, and they may need to make some major moves in order to pave a better road for the future.
