Junior Dos Santos Vs Cain Valesquez: A Dream Match For The Heavyweights

When you ask a MMA fan who are the best heavy-weights in the UFC right now, they will tell you four names.

Brock Lesnar, Cain Valesquez, Junior Dos Santos, and Shane Carwin. 

Those names were tossed around when speaking about the Heavy-weight title. Obviously, the landscape has changed some-what since then, with Shane Carwin's first defeat at the hands of Brock Lesnar. Now fans wait for Cain Valesquez and Brock Lesnar to face each other next week at UFC 121. 

For argument sake, let's say that Cain does win against his opponent at October 23. While not 'official', everyone points to Junior Dos Santos to be the next man to compete for the title. 

This is a match that I would of loved to see before Cain's fight with Brock Lesnar to determine the number 1 contender when Shane Carwin was picked. But after Cain's surprising knock-out of Rodrigo Nogueria, very few could say he wasn't the next contender. While this was happening, Junior was still facing the likes of Mirko Cro Cop and Gabriel Gonzaga to remain relevant to earn his spot into title contention, finally receiving it with his decision victory over Roy Nelson.

What made this fight so exciting for the fans back then [and even now]?

Both were products of the UFC hype machine, and rightfully so. Both fighters are undefeated in the UFC, with only one decision victory on both sides. They're apart of the 'new breed' of fighters, along with Jon Jones, Jose Aldo, etc..Cain Valesquez and Junior Dos Santos both having devastating knock-out power. And they're improving with every fight they're in.

As I stated, let's say that Cain does get past Brock Lesnar and wins the belt.

Junior Dos Santos will defiantly hold a small bit of grudge against Cain if they ever met[at least more so than Brock Lesnar]. It was the knock-out of Dos Santos's mentor, Big Nog', that gave Valesquez the next crack at the title. Dos Santos will try to look to avenger his teacher's loss with a victory of his own, winning the belt in the process.

On that same side of the token, Cain Valesquez will probably be known as the 'Black House killer', after destroying not only one of the founders of the camp, but one of the rising prospects in their camp. 

It has the marketability to become one of the biggest fights in the UFC. And base on their recent performances, it will be a fight that fans will talk about for some time.
