Green Bay Packers Lose Another Close Game as the Injury Bug Rears Its Ugly Head

Nicholas SteblenkoOct 17, 2010

The Green Bay Packers are doing everything possible to stay afloat in the 2010 season. The injuries have piled up and are proving to have a major impact on the team.

Can someone throw them a line? It is getting a little ridiculous at this point, and there is not much Green Bay can do about it.

With the absence of some of their biggest playmakers on defense, the Packers did all they could this Sunday against the Dolphins offense in a tough loss at home. So far this season, the Packers have lost starters Nick Barnett, Brandon Chillar and, at least for Sunday's matchup, Clay Matthews, which leaves their linebacking core with a number of backups to do the job.

The offensive side of the ball is not much better. Sunday saw the absence of right tackle Mark Tauscher and tight end Jermichael Finley and, although Bryan Bulaga performed admirably, the oft-mismatched Finley was sorely missed.

Green Bay still had a shot with Rodgers in the game, battling a concussion to play on Sunday, as he threw for over 300 yards and also hooked up with Greg Jennings on a beautiful 86-yard score. It just did not come together quick enough in the second half as Rodgers tied the game late on a run up the middle.

Mike McCarthy and company have got to find a way to get more creative on offense if they hope to break the .500 mark next week against the Minnesota Vikings. Jared Allen is the leader of a fierce defensive line that is well known for wreaking havoc on Aaron Rodgers in seasons past. Finding ways to get the ball out of his hands quickly will be important if they hope to keep Rodgers on the field next week.

At this point, all they can do is hope the heavens send them a gift. Maybe the PUP list can deliver in the coming weeks, and the Packers can get back on track before it is too late.
