Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Monday Night Football Betting Odds and

Eddie AdamsOct 17, 2010

Two 3-2 AFC South rivals clash Monday night and it appears as if Vegas thinks the visiting Titans will improve to 4-2 as Sportsbook.com has the Titans vs. Jaguars point spread at Tennessee -3 points. After scanning the rest of the Monday Night Football betting odds, we could be in for a high scoring affair as the odds-makers currently have the 'total' at a hefty 45.5 points.

As you can see, the Jags will be playing in the ever dangerous role of home underdog. Headed into NFL Week 6, bettors that consistently backed the home dogs have murdered online gambling outfits. The numbers are quite staggering and considering that the football betting public usually bets on the road favorite in these instances, it isn't surprising that Vegas is having a very profitable NFL betting season so far. After five weeks of NFL action, the home dogs are 19-10-1 against the spread (ATS) and 17-10 straight up.

Obviously the football betting public doesn't care about those one-sided numbers as 82 percent of Sportsbook.com's Monday Night Football point spread bettors are pounding the Titans.

Tennessee is a hard team to figure out. Two weeks ago they lost 26-20 to the Denver Broncos despite being 6-point favorites. Then last week they go on the road and defeat the Dallas Cowboys 34-27 even though they were getting 6.5 points. This has been their MO this season as they have yet to sting together back-to-back wins. Additionally, they have yet to cover the point spread in consecutive weeks.

Titans' running back Chris Johnson is coming of a big day in which he rushed for 131 yards and a couple of touchdowns. In his last game versus the Jags in 2009, Johnson exploded for 228 yards and two touchdowns. Jacksonville has been solid against the rush so far this season ranking 13th in the NFL (102.8 Yds/G).

While the Titans have yet to win and cover in consecutive weeks, the Jaguars are coming off two straight wins in which they covered easily as well. Two weeks ago the defeated the Indianapolis Colts 31-28 even though they were 6.5-point underdogs, then last week they went on the road to record a double-digit 36-26 victory versus the Buffalo Bills. As a result, the Jaguars own a winning record of 3-2, which comes as a surprise to just about everyone.

As far as covering the point spread is concerned, the Titans have been absolutely brutal when playing a team with a winning record recently. In their last 11 games versus a team that was over .500, the Titans covered just one time.

They have not been good their bettors when they were favored recently either with a 1-5 record against the spread (ATS) in their last six games when spotting their opponent points.

Jaguars' running back Maurice Jones-Drew is a bit banged up but expected to play. He'll face a Titans' defense that ranks 11th in the NFL in rushing (101.6 Yds/G). He could have a hard time finding the end zone as Tennessee has yielded just one rushing touchdown all season.

Jacksonville quarterback David Garrard has been very hot over their two game win streak, throwing five touchdowns to just one interceptions. For the season he now has thrown nine touchdowns while compiling a very solid 90.1 passer rating.

Garrard could have another big day Monday night as the Titans' pass defense is towards the bottom of the league. Headed into NFL Week 6 the Titans were giving up 243 passing yards per game, bad enough for 27th in the league.

The last ten times these AFC South rivals met, the home team covered the point spread seven times, including last year's 20 point Jaguars home victory.

Oddsauthority.com Monday Night Football Pick:

Jacksonville Jaguars +3 points

These teams are way too evenly matched for the home team to be getting a field goal. With the way in which home dogs have been covering the point spread this season, Jaguars +3 is the play.
