NFL Week 6 Pick: Jaguars Will Win and Cover Against the Titans

James BrownOct 17, 2010

The Tennessee Titans face off in an AFC South divisional matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football.  The latest NFL football odds set by online sportsbook, BetMania have the Titans as 3-point favorites and the total set at 45. This is a battle of two 3-2 teams that have been inconsistent all year long.

The Jacksonville Jaguars started off the season with a win over the Broncos, but stumbled badly in blowout losses to the Chargers and the Eagles. They have  recovered to upset the Colts and trample the Bills. Now they find themselves in a unique position, battling for the division lead in the AFC South.

The Titans have been equally as inconsistent in their games during the 2010 campaign. They lost a game against the Steelers when they turned over the ball seven times and lost a lead with minutes to go against the Broncos—both of which were at home. Yet they have been world beaters on the road, cashing in as underdogs over the Cowboys and the New York Giants.

The Titans will try to continue the surprising road play when they travel to Jacksonville to do battle underneath the lights. The Titans are 1-5 against the spread (ATS) in their last six games as a favorite, 1-6 ATS in their last seven games following a win, and 1-10 ATS against a team with a winning record. The home team is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings, and the underdog is 5-2 ATS in their last seven meetings.

Underdogs have been a profitable wager in the NFL this year, and home divisional underdogs have raked in the cash for football bettors. This angle is alive in this game as the Jaguars are home divisional underdogs and the angle gets a little kick when you consider they are at home on Monday Night Football.

The home underdog role has suited the Jags well as they are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games when as a home underdog between 0.5 and 3 points. The Jaguars are fourth in the league in rushing the ball and will be able to get the offense in gear on the ground. While the Titans are a good squad, they are very mistake-prone. The Titans are third in the league in penalties and first when it comes to committing personal fouls.

The hometown crowd and the running game will power the Jacksonville Jaguars to a win and a share of first place in the AFC South.
