WWE Smackdown 10/15/10 Review: Earning The Right to Brag

Graham GSM MatthewsOct 16, 2010

NOTE: Bleacher Report is not letting me add media, so please excuse the no pictures or polls.

1. Rey Mysterio def. WWE Tag Team Champion "Dashing" Cody Rhodes (Bragging Rights Qualifying Match)

-Great match. Having it be the first time these two have met, it makes it better as well. Rhodes works well with Mysterio, and a feud with him wouldn't hurt him (as well as McIntyre). It got good time and started the show off on a good note.

A little confused on why Alberto had nothing to do with this match, when he should have if they want to continue the feud. Nice finish also. One step forward for putting Mysterio on the team, two steps back for not getting either of the tag team champions on the card.

2. Jack Swagger def. MVP (Bragging Rights Qualifying Match)

-A decent match, but nothing special. The highlight was the bird being thrown over the announce table .... classic. Swagger's newer persona with stupidity is great, and it's working for him. However, I didn't like how fast MVP tapped to the ankle lock, making him look weak.

Glad with the decision to put Swagger on the team as he needs it, and hopefully will get a good feud afterwards. Hopefully, MVP can get a good push too. So much for a feud with Dolph Ziggler.

3. Alberto Del Rio def. Chris Masters (Bragging Rights Qualifying Match)

-Lackluster, and probably belongs on WWE Superstars. Unlike last week, Del Rio didn't pull of anything special, which disappoints me. I'm still high on him, but maybe he felt he didn't want to waste moves on Masters.

Like I said with Mysterio's match, why didn't Mysterio get involved? Is the feud over? Iw would like to see how Mysterio and Del Rio co-exist for Bragging Rights.

4. Edge def. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler (non-title) (Bragging Rights Qualifying Match)

-An awesome match that has earned my Match of the Night. I knew this would be a great match, and it didn't disappoint. Like with Swagger, a future feud between these two would be something for me to look forward too.

It got a little too much time, but sometimes thats a good thing. Highlight was that sick Zig-Zag on the steps, can it be duplicated? A very un-predictable finish with that awesome spear and the crowd loved it. Bumming Ziggler on Team Smackdown (unless he doesn't face Bryan at BR), but it's great to see Edge get a good win.

5. Kaval vs. Big Show (Five Minute Challenge Bragging Rights Qualifying Matches / 6. Kaval vs. Tyler Reks (Bragging Rights Qualifying Match)

-Since it's easier, I'm just reviewing these two segments together. First, the Big Show vs. Kaval match was terrible. Big Show just dominated and didn't even attempt to cover. I know he's supposed to be face, but then why choose Big Show in the first place?

And it doesn't make sense for Kaval to pull a some-what victory out of his ass in the last 30 seconds after the match. As for the Tyler Reks segment, I have mixed reactions.

For one, I'm glad Reks is back on TV and is getting a push. But what happened the last time WWE had faith in a superstar and put him at Bragging Rights (see Eric Escobar - 2009)? Escobar got released. I don't want that to happen to Reks, as he isn't a bad talent.

However, I don't know how putting him on the Smacdkown team is going to help him. No one knows him yet, just because he was on ECW and he has been absent for nearly a year. Kaval would have been a better choice for now. But although, this feud should be interesting.

6. Kofi Kingston def. WWE Tag Team Champion Drew McIntyre (Bragging Rights Qualifying Match)

-Didn't not live up to expectations. Their feud a few months ago was great with some awesome matches, This match, however, was a lot shorter due to Edge's match, It deserved more time, and I was surprised to see the Trouble in Paradise come so unexpectedly.

I'm glad Kofi got the spot as he deserves it and needs to get on PPV.

*Undertaker, Paul Bearer, and Kane Promo

-The repetitive promos every week are starting to grow on this feud, as this one was boring. Kane's promo was good, but the attack was weak. The promo was unneeded though as it just rehashed what Bearer said earlier in the night.

Boring way to end the show again, but at least we have the Buried Alive match to look forward to. BQ: When was the last time a Buried Alive Match (not Casket) was held? 2003?

Final Review: A show with great in-ring action like RAW, but weak on promos, seeing that the Kane-Taker feud was the only one. It really helped promote Bragging Rights, and the match is really starting to shape up.

Since SyFy's debut, this show was probably the best so far. Hopefully the action like this continues, and the Taker-Kane feud gets more in-ring action rather than boring promos.
