Fantasy Football Week 6 Injury Report: Is Aaron Rodgers a Question Mark?

Ray TannockOct 15, 2010

Welcome to the Week 6 injury report, and unlike last week, this time around the Maypole there are more questions concerning start status than actual injury status.

I tried to gather the players who are likely to be the hottest topics as we get closer to the weekend, so players such as TE Jermichael Finley (likely done for the season) and RB Pierre Thomas (out for Week 6) will only get a mention here.

Let’s take a look at who is on the mend, for how long and what you should do about it.

RB Darren McFadden, Oakland Raiders

Latest Injury News

McFadden is now expected to miss another week due to that hamstring injury he has been dealing with, giving Michael Bush the go-ahead.

Fantasy Impact

Going forward, offensive coordinator Hue Jackson said that “the hot hand” will get the work when both backs are healthy, relegating both Bush and McFadden to RB2 status at best.

Your Move Is…

Try to deal McFadden if you can if you are in need of a solid starting back. Keep him if you don’t mind him sharing duties with Bush.

QB Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

Latest Injury News

Rodgers’ concussion is not an issue, it appears, and he is probably going to play this week against the Dolphins.

Fantasy Impact

The Dolphins are an up and down team that can swarm a QB, but they can also get burned at the worst possible times in a game. Unless something drastically changes between now and game time, Rodgers should be considered fine.

Your Move Is…

Start Rodgers.

WR Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions

Latest Injury News

Calvin Johnson and that shoulder will be a game time decision, but I wouldn’t expect too much out of him against the No. 1 passing defense of the New York Giants.

Fantasy Impact

The Lions need a win to remain somewhat competitive, but risking further damage to Johnson takes precedent. The Lions have a bye after this game, so Johnson will probably be used sparingly, if at all.

Your Move Is…

Sit Johnson this week.

Latest Injury News

Vick was held out of practice again, and despite him wanting to play against his former team, the chances are slim at best.

Fantasy Impact

Vick’s muscle was REMOVED from the actual bone, so don’t think the Eagles are going to be dumb enough to let Vick play.

Your Move Is…

Start your QB2 this week.

LB Sean Weatherspoon, Atlanta Falcons

Latest Injury News

Weatherspoon’s knee is still giving the rookie trouble, and he is not going to play this week against the Eagles.

Fantasy Impact

The MRI revealed a sprain only, which is good news, but expect the Falcons to keep him on the bench, where you should keep him too.

Your Move Is…

His backup, Stephen Nicolas, is a really good spot start, and the Falcons defense has been a gold mine for fantasy points this year.

RB Ryan Mathews, San Diego Chargers

Latest Injury News

The back and forth injury train of Mathews is coming to a halt, and his status is getting better...for now.

Fantasy Impact

Mathews is now likely to start when just 24 hours ago he was unlikely to start, meaning an RBBC is brewing in San Diego.

Your Move Is…

I still like Mike Tolbert as the goal line back, but Mathews could be the better asset out of the backfield and on check downs.

CB Darrelle Revis, New York Jets

Latest Injury News

Revis’ hamstring is not 100 percent, and he may miss this week’s game vs. the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Impact

Denver is a pass-happy team, which usually means good things for CBs in IDP leagues since they inevitably see a lot of work, so Revis owners have got to be bummed right now. This injury could also open the door for Brandon Lloyd, the guy Revis was supposed to be covering.

Your Move Is…

If you are looking for a one-time-deal starter, try Revis’ replacement, Drew Coleman.

WR, Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys

8 of 10
HOUSTON - SEPTEMBER 26: Wide receiver Dez Bryant #88 of the Dallas Cowboys completes a 30 yard reception as he beats cornerbacks Brice McCain #21 and Eugene Glover #25 of the Houston Texans on the play at Reliant Stadium on September 26, 2010 in Houston,

Latest Injury News

Dez Bryant is dealing with not only a persistent ankle injury, but also a rib injury, and his status is likely to be a game day decision.

Fantasy Impact

Forget it guys. Even if he does play, Tony Romo is not going to be using him often, which really hurts PPR leaguers.

Your Move Is…

Suit up one of your bench guys and sit Bryant.

CB Cedric Griffin, Minnesota Vikings

Latest Injury News

Well, it’s official kids: Griffin is done for the year with a torn ACL, giving way to more issues in the Vikings secondary.

Fantasy Impact

Ideally, if you have an open DP spot on your roster, I would grab SS Husain Abdullah from Minnesota, who’s been on fire, but if you need a CB, try your luck with Aqib Talib of Tampa Bay, who is not only a shutdown corner but is curiously sporting two percent ownership in most leagues.

Your Move Is…

It is safe to drop Griffin.

WR Justin Gage, Tennessee Titans

Latest Injury News

Gage is almost 100 percent likely to miss another game this week thanks to that nagging hamstring injury he has been dealing with, and you can consider him a true week-to-week player in regard to status.

Fantasy Impact

For those of you who listened to the advice I gave about grabbing Kenny Britt, congratulations. Britt now has a TD in every game started, and last week against a good Dallas secondary he continued to show his skills, racking up 86 yards on four catches with a score.

For those who didn’t, ya better grab him now before he's gone for good.

Your Move Is…

Gage may fast become the odd man out in Tennessee the longer Britt plays, simply because the coaching staff will not be able to ignore his health and skill set as a WR. If you own Gage, I would try to replace him or deal him if you can.

I hope this helps, guys, and if you are looking for advice on who to start this week, check out this week's Week 6 WR Start Sit and my Week 6 RB Start Sit columns.

Good luck this week.
