Joe Stevenson vs. Mac Danzig Expected to Happen at UFC 124
MMA Junkie reports that a lightweight showdown between two champions of The Ultimate Fighter will take place at UFC 124 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The encounter will see TUF 2 Welterweight champion and former UFC Lightweight title contender Joe "Daddy" Stevenson attempt to put the nail in the career coffin of TUF 6 Welterweight champion Mac Danzig in a collision of two exciting veterans of the sport.
I say it's a "nail in the career coffin" because of the recent bad streak of luck that Danzig has had since winning Season 6 of the popular show.
After beating Tommy Speer in the finale, he posted a win over Mark Bocek before dropping fights to Clay Guida, Josh Neer, and Jim Miller.
He was able to bounce back with a win over Justin Buchholz at UFC 109 before controversially "submitting" to TUF 5 alumnus Matt Wiman at UFC 115 in a heavily-debated bout.
The rematch was supposed to see co-main event status at UFC Fight Night 22, but a chest injury prevented Danzig from getting any bit of vengeance.
Stevenson also needs the win to stay active in the UFC, although he may not need the "W" as desperately as Danzig does.
Stevenson has beaten some impressive names, and he's dropped fights to the likes of Kenny Florian, Diego Sanchez and BJ Penn, but he seemed to be back on track with wins over Nate Diaz and Spencer Fisher.
His most recent loss came in UFC 110's "Fight of the Night" against George Sotiropoulos, the latter of whom nabbed a Unanimous Decision victory.
Unquestionably, Danzig may want to ground Stevenson, but then again the submission prowess of Stevenson could cause Danig to stand with the TUF 2 winner.
With Danzig, you never know what's going to happen, and such is also the case with Stevenson.
All this in mind, the UFC Lightweight division should be represented well come Dec. 11 by two outstanding fighters.
