NFL Picks Week 6: Five Upset Picks You Might Not Suspect

James EvensOct 13, 2010

As we enter Week 6, the NFL season is in full swing in what has been a season full of surprises already.

Who would have guessed that the last undefeated team would have been the Kansas City Chiefs? Now that the Colts ended that storyline, we are no longer left with the age-old question of whether a team will go for the undefeated season or the Super Bowl.

Here are five upsets that could very well happen this week.

Seahawks Over Bears

Seattle's season could be summarized with one word, inconsistent. After opening the season with a blowout victory over San Francisco, the Seahawks lost to Denver, proceeded to defeat San Diego, and then lost to St. Louis. Coming off their bye week, look for the Seahawks to be primed and ready to take on the Bears at Soldier Field.

If the Seahawks can get a quick start on the Bears, they will be able to defeat them because of Chicago's recent inconsistent play.  If Seattle can get off to a quick start by putting pressure on the Bears' offense, look for Seattle to come out on top on this one.

Detroit Over Giants

After coming close most of the year to a victory, the Detroit Lions finally got it together in a 44-6 rocking of St. Louis last weekend.  The Lions seem to have finally gotten over that hump, and could cause trouble for opposing teams the rest of the season.  The Giants, who have been struggling lately, seem to be just the team Detroit could beat to get back to back wins this season.  Look for an upset by the Lions.

Cleveland Over Pittsburgh

This one may seem like quite the stretch, but it could happen.  With the recent hype and pressure on Pittsburgh following Big Ben's return to action, the Browns have a chance to send the Steelers back to reality.

Look for the Browns to come out amped up in anticipation of this game, as they will be hearing about it all week.  The Browns, who have only won a single game this season, haven't been playing as horribly as their record shows and the Steelers may overlook them.  With Delhomme almost healthy, it would be the perfect time for the Browns to break out of their slump and defeat their rival.

Kansas City is coming off quite the tough loss against Indianapolis, which will give the Texans the perfect opportunity to hand the Chiefs their second loss of the season.  The Texans, who have started off strong, will need the same adjective to describe the game from Foster and the rest of the offense in order to defeat the high-powered Kansas City defense.

Another key factor is for the Texans to win the special teams battle.  Look for the Texans to defeat the Chiefs.

St. Louis Over San Diego

After getting smoked by the Lions, expect the St. Louis Rams to come out ready to play this week against the Chargers.  The Chargers have a high-powered offense led by Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates, and have been able to put up serious numbers against opponents throughout the season so far.

Don't expect this to change, but expect the Rams to put up points against the Chargers as well.  This will be Sam Bradford's coming out party as one of the top QBs in the game.  Expect a high-scoring affair with the Rams coming out on the top.
