Antonio Silva Vs. Valentijn Overeem Official For "Henderson Vs. Babalu"
It's not going to be Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem that stands across the cage from Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva on Dec. 4 at Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu, but Silva could at least send a message to The Demolition Man.
How will he hope to do that?
By defeating "The Other Overeem" in St. Louis, Mo.
MMA Junkie confirms that the once-on-and-off bout between Bigfoot and Alistair's brother, Valentijn "The Python" Overeem, is back on for the Dec. 4 card in the same city that hosted the "Heavy Artillery" event this past May.
At that card, Bigfoot scored a hard-fought Unanimous Decision win over former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei "The Pitbull" Arlovski, while Alistair made short work of "The Grim" Brett Rogers.
The Muay Thai and BJJ Specialist fighting out of American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fla., will have to contend with a much more experienced and almost identical fighter to The Demolition Man when The Python makes his Strikeforce debut.
While the older Overeem carries a decision win with 11 knockouts/TKOs and 16 submission wins, along with nine losses by TKO/KO, 15 losses by submission, and a loss by decision, the one thing that Overeem doesn't carry is a kickboxing game.
This may be one less thing that Bigfoot (14-2-0, 1-1 SF) has to worry about when he faces The Python (28-25, 0-0 SF) who will also be riding a two-fight winning streak coming into this fight, whereas Bigfoot will carry only the win over Arlovski with him into this fight.
This won't be an easy feat for the debuting Overeem, but this should make for an exciting heavyweight encounter in every sense of the word.
