Antonio Margarito's Confidence Level High for Contest vs. Manny Pacquiao

Troy SparksOct 12, 2010

It's about a month before Antonio Margarito fights Manny Pacquiao, and already the Mexican fighter is talking trash.

In an interview with Fanhouse, Margarito expressed his opinion with boldness.  He's confident that he can beat Pacquiao.

I wish he could tell me what he really thought about his upcoming fight in English.  Why should I wait for his trainer, Robert Garcia, to interpret what Margarito said?

Apparently, in any language, Margarito sounds good in the video.

Here's the problem I see with Margarito's comments:  If I knew how to speak Spanish, and I was there at his training facility, I'd tell him that he's full of it—in Spanish or English.

However Margarito feels about his chances of beating the Pac-Man, it won't happen this year.  And Margarito should know that Pacquiao may not be interested in a rematch if he loses.

It was interesting to know that Margarito threw an insult at Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's trainer.  Does he really think that Roach is shaking in his boots, afraid that his guy will lose?

We already know about the brutal sparring sessions that Pacquiao had, but there's no proof, since Roach didn't let anyone see it in public.

Margarito feels better than ever in his training, and that's good.  How will he feel after the barrage of punishing hits from Pacquiao?

It is true that Margarito has the height advantage, but he was worn down before.

I saw some of Shane Mosley's greatest hits video recently, and in his fight against Margarito, the Mexican had the height advantage—yet Mosley kept pounding him to exhaustion.

If Pacquiao follows almost the same formula that Mosley used, it will be an easy win for the better pound-for-pound boxer.

Will we see the same Margarito that effectively put away Miguel Cotto, or will we get the same boxer who couldn't hang with Mosley?

Somebody in Margarito's camp better check the wraps around his hand on fight night.

By the way, Margarito was named Mexico's most popular fighter.  I guess that left Juan Manuel Marquez out of the running.  Pacquiao will leave the same impression that he twice left JMM.
