Justin Gabriel's Future With The WWE In Jeopardy?

Leva LiesOct 12, 2010

This past Monday Night, we were treated to WWE Champion Randy Orton going up against Nexus high flyer Justin Gabriel for the second time on RAW.

Both men, as talented wrestlers, were able to put on a solid 10 minute match, until the end where Gabriel's 450 Splash went a little wrong.

This video shows the botch and a slowed down replay.

I watched the move several times, trying to figure out exactly what went wrong. It could be on either man's head- Gabriel could have overshot the move, or Orton could've moved too slowly/the wrong way. I'm more inclined to the mistake being Orton's, but I could be wrong.

Now, as we are all aware, Randy Orton has a history of being short tempered, inside and outside of Kayfabe. Some of the men who have unluckily been on the receiving end of Orton's temper include former WWE Superstar Mr. Kennedy and Kofi Kingston. After Kennedy botched a move and dropped Orton the wrong way, he was released (I agreed with Orton's anger to an extent on this occasion, as Kennedy DID drop him awkwardly). Kofi slipped up in the ring with Orton, getting up from the mat too soon and the match ended with Orton yelling "Stupid! Fucking stupid!" at him.

Kofi Kingston's push was abruptly stopped following this incident.

Orton, being one of RAW's largest, most accomplished stars, does have a lot of pull backstage. This, partnered with a very short temper, means it is very easy for him to get his way.

Now onto our current situation. Whatever way you paint it, the 450 was a botch. Regardless of who's fault it was, it was a botch. Not everybody is perfect, botches DO happen, but unfortunately, I doubt Randy Orton sees it that way. Immediately after, a fan commented on the incident on Twitter;

"Just watched RAW, and saw @RandyOrton botch moving out of the way of the 450 splash, will Justin Gabriel be fired now for doing his job?"

To this, Orton replied; "who botched wut exactly? Seems to me I'm the one who was landed on."

He also said later on that "none of Gabe's kicks were misses".

Now it appears to me that there is definitely bad blood here on Orton's part, which isn't too much of a surprise. Even though the second 'Tweet' could just be me taking it the wrong way, which I doubt it is.

So what happens next?

If tradition is as tradition does, Orton will complain to the higher ups, meaning Gabriel could be delegated to lower mid card status a la Kofi Kingston or even worse, future endeavoured like Mr. Kennedy.

However, with the Nexus angle still going, it seems unlikely that these things will happen as Nexus are down to four members anyway and Justin Gabriel, behind Wade Barrett, is the best competitor they have.

I honestly hope for once Orton is the bigger man and leaves the issue alone. No one was hurt and it could easily be seen as if it was intended, if that's what his problem is. If Gabriel was to be punished for a botch which was most likely not his fault, it would be a real shame for two reasons; one, he is more than decent in the ring and two, it would be another young guy's career being messed about with due to backstage politics.

Your thoughts on the botch?
