Fantasy Football Week 6 Pickups: 10 Moves To Save Your Season

Tom KinslowOct 12, 2010

If you're five weeks into the season and your team has fallen apart around you, it's time to hit the waiver wire and try to salvage this into a playoff push.

There's plenty of time left in this season to turn it around. I give you 10 guys who can help you win some ball games down the stretch.

If you want advice on anyone I didn't choose for this list, feel free to ask in the comments.

No. 10: Andrew Quarless

With Green Bay going without its top two tight ends for the next couple of weeks, Andrew Quarless is going to get plenty of looks from whomever is quarterbacking for the Packers next week.

Quarless was productive in his limited time on the field last week, and he should find plenty of room to make plays with the talent around him on the offense. He's not a long-term solution, but there's no reason why you can't get a few good weeks out of him.

No. 9: Tennessee Titans D/ST

2 of 10
ARLINGTON, TX - OCTOBER 10: Defensive tackle Jason Jones #91 of the Tennessee Titans sacks quarterback Tony Romo #9 of the Dallas Cowboys at Cowboys Stadium on October 10, 2010 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)

Over the last two weeks, the Titans have 12 sacks. Not only that, but Tennessee picked off Tony Romo three times on Sunday. The week before, the Titans took a kick back to the house. They have a returner who looks like he can break multiple kicks in Marc Mariani.

While Tennessee will give up a ton of passing yards, they do make plays on the defensive line and force turnovers. It's a high-risk, high-reward pickup, but it's way worth it when it does pay off. The Titans play the Jaguars this week and it's a matchup that could pay off big-time.

No. 8: Roy Williams

Roy Williams has finally broken out in the Dallas Cowboys offense and has three touchdowns over the past two weeks.

Williams is producing. Because Tony Romo is spreading the ball all around the field, Williams will benefit. Be leery about this because there's a chance he can fade away just as quickly as he appeared. If you're in a deep league, take a look at Williams and, at the very least, stash him on your bench.

It can't hurt.

No. 7: Steve Johnson

I know that you're probably skeptical at picking up any member of the Buffalo Bills offense, but Steve Johnson is worth consideration if you need help with your wideouts.

Johnson has four touchdowns in the last three games, and it's probably a product of the fact that Buffalo is usually trailing in games. Johnson has turned into the top target in the Bills offense. He's putting up yards and touchdowns and putting up big fantasy numbers.

No. 6: Kenny Britt

With the Titans slowly opening the offense, Kenny Britt has benefited and has pulled in touchdowns in the last three games. He had his first double-digit game this week against Dallas.

Vince Young is throwing the ball more each week and he looks Britt's way more than any other wideout. Britt has the potential to put up big numbers and got a few targets deep down the field last week. If the offense stays open in Tennessee, Britt could put big numbers on the board.

No. 5: Miami Dolphins D/ST

With Aaron Rodgers possibly sitting out with a concussion, it would be wise to pick up the Dolphins defense in preparation for their matchup.

If the Dolphins are going against Matt Flynn, it's going to be a big day for Miami. It would be a good one-week flyer and could win you a matchup with a big day. Defenses can swing entire matchups with a big day. If Flynn is starting, grab the Dolphins if they're available and never look back.

No. 4: Danny Amendola

With Mark Clayton going down for the year, Danny Amendola is going to benefit. Amendola already got plenty of looks from Sam Bradford in the passing game, and he'll get more now that Bradford's favorite target is no longer there.

Amendola hasn't found the end zone yet, but he would make a strong flex play in a deep league and should start to score touchdowns now that the big-play guy isn't there anymore.

Mardy Gillard is another guy who can benefit from this situation.

No. 3: Shaun Hill

8 of 10
DETROIT - OCTOBER 10: Shaun Hill #14 of the Detroit Lions looks for a open receiver while playing the St. Louis Rams on October 10, 2010 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)

While it's only a matter of time before Matthew Stafford is back under center, you can do much, much worse than Shaun Hill.

Hill has been nothing short of great for Detroit under center and has produced. The last two weeks, Hill has put up over 25 points and has looked good doing it. Hill and the Lions have the Giants this week, so I'd be hesitant to start him this week; but for a couple of weeks, you'll be able to get some good production out of him.

You haven't been able to say that about a Lions quarterback in a long time.

No. 2: Davone Bess

9 of 10
MIAMI - OCTOBER 4: Davone Bess #15 of the Miami Dolphins makes a catch against Jonathan Wilhite #24 of the New England Patriots at Sun Life Field on October 4, 2010 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty Images)

With Miami starting to throw the ball more often, it's become evident that Davone Bess is Henne's favorite target.

Bess is producing and had his best game of the season against New England two weeks ago. While Henne is inconsistent, he manages to find Bess during the course of a game. Bess is a speedy wideout who can make plays off short passes, which Henne is best at.

With Miami's running game, Bess should be able to get open underneath.

No. 1: Vince Young

10 of 10
ARLINGTON, TX - OCTOBER 10: Quarteback Vince Young #10 of the Tennessee Titans throws a pass against the Dallas Cowboys at Cowboys Stadium on October 10, 2010 in Arlington, Texas. The Titans won 34-27. (Photo by Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)

Since his total disaster of a performance against Pittsburgh in Week 2, Vince Young has not thrown an interception and has four touchdowns in that same stretch.

While he hasn't shown it off much, he can make plays with his legs and could be the beneficiary of a couple quarterback sneaks. The offense is opening up more and more each week, and Young is making the most of it, finding wideouts down the field.

If you need quarterback help, Vince Young is a sneaky good pickup.
