Floyd Mayweather Jr. Is Not Hip Hop News, And I Believe He Is Innocent

King JOct 12, 2010

The other day I had to run some errands and when I stepped into the drug store I saw one of the greatest boxers, if not the greatest boxer in the sport right now, on the cover of a hip hop magazine.

As always I was pleased to see any of my favorite boxers on the cover of any magazine for my theory is the more exposure we can give our sport of boxing the better.

But until I read the headline I then acknowledge it was a magazine exploiting the now old news of Mayweather allegedly assaulting his baby mama and of course the photo they used was his mug shot photo.

Right next to him was NBA star Matt Barnes with his mug shot as well. The headline read:

ARRESTED!!!

EACH AFTER DOMESTIC INCIDENTS

Just for the record for those of you who do not know real true Hip Hop is not about being a thug, getting arrested, selling drugs, beating up women, etc. All these things are a very commercialized total bastardization of what true hip hop is.

If you want to get technical Hip Hop can be quickly broken down to the four major elements of which it originated from and that is: 1) Emceeing or Rapping 2) DJing 3) Graffiti Art or Writing 4) B-boying or Break Dancing.

All of these 4 major elements were a form of artistic expression and a healthy positive yet passionate competition between true hip hop heads. From these intense competitions of the four elements there was to be no violence and gun play for that is not real hip hop.

Trying to be a thug and beating up women is not hip hop. So why put Floyd Mayweather Jr. on the cover of a hip hop magazine then? Because he has a new mug shot circulating the internet that gives him enough street cred to be on the cover of Hip Hop Weekly?

Has Floyd ever practice and excelled in any of the four major elements of hip hop?

1) Emceeing or Rapping?

For those of you who seen his 24/7 episodes he definitely has a wit and is quick to deliver the punch line of a joke insult to his opponents and haters, but we unfortunately saw what could possibly be the weakest flow ever spit on premium cable television when he began to attempt to rap by saying something to the degree of: "I'm a gorilla, I am a dog, I am a gorilla dog."

Wow, that flow made Justin Bieber look like Rakim.

Verdict: HELL NO

2) DJing?

Many of you know Floyd has his own record label, Philthy Rich Records. But lets keep it REAL does anyone give a F about his record label or any of the rappers signed to it? Can anyone name a rapper from his label?

I would argue that Floyd does not have DJ skills for if he did he would probably be executive producer on some of these hit record songs that we never heard of by now if he did.

Verdict: Most probably not.

3) Graffiti Art or Writing? Floyd definitely has a flamboyant style when it comes to his choice of clothing and of course jewelry. Based on this I would say he has dabbled in the graffiti art game as a youngsta.

We will give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. Being a Floyd fan I have a few of his autographs and he definitely has a beautiful signature to his name.

Verdict: We will give him this one.

4) B-boying or Break Dancing?

We all seen Floyd bust out a very 80's primitive robot style pop and lock while scaring his children in an episode of 24/7. If you would base his B-boy skills on this alone the verdict would be a clear no on this one.

However Floyd is a true athlete with unheard of athleticism and the one thing that Floyd can do better than any other fight is adapt.

Floyd has the natural talents to learn and do whatever he wants and his body would enable him to do so.

Many reports have confirmed that Floyd's dad was very strict and did not allow him to even play games such as football or basketball with other children for the chance that he may injure himself and could not fight.

So with that being said Floyd probably was not able to break dance as a kid like most of us were able to.

Battling in the B-Boy competitions is what made one a better B-boy, by pushing yourself to the limits, fueling yourself off your opponents energy or just simply biting moves from other B-boys.

Plus you add the fact that Floyd is fast as hell and has amazing foot work, balance, coordination and most of all precision.

Verdict: Floyd probably was not allowed to B-boy but he probably would have been really good.

So with Floyd being able to possibly excel in two of the four major elements of hip hop these are reasons why he should be associated with hip hop. Not because he has a new mug shot or because he has a bromance with the past prime rap star 50 Cent.

Now, personally I am a big fan of Floyd Mayweather the boxer and what he does inside that ring.

I am also part of the very small minority who actually gets a kick out of the ultimate douche bag things he says and does in front of cameras especially during the filming of the various 24/7 episodes.

Believe it or not I am probably also in the very small minority of people who actually believe Floyd is innocent of the recent domestic allegations charged against him.

It has nothing to do with me being a fan of his but more so the crowd that Floyd chooses to hang around with and that includes the women he chooses to date and have relationships with.

Several years ago, one of my co-workers was bragging to me how she was part of Floyd's entourage and she performed several assistant-like duties for him such as helping him find a Los Angeles mansion to purchase.

This was right around the time that Floyd was really blowing up and going from HBO regular to HBO Pay Per View star. This was also at the time where Floyd was just about to go into court for the first round of alleged baby mama drama domestic charges.

I asked my co-worker, hey just between you and me did Floyd really beat her? Her response was: "I don't want to say..................but I will say this Floyd is a great parent to those kids."

Well I didn't know what to make of her response but I did find it rather suspect that she would respond in the manner that she did. If Floyd really did hit his baby mama then why wouldn't she say yeah he did I can't believe he did that.

Instead she said, she does not want to say. Which translates into "no, he is innocent, my ghetto girlfriend was trying to gold dig off him while she still could."

As we all know, Josie Harris later made a statement to the degree of Floyd would never lay a hand on me, he is a total teddy bear.

Now we never knew exactly what happened back then years ago or what happened most recently, but what we do know is Floyd does have a crap load of money in the bank.

When you are a jobless waste of space who does not contribute to society but you are hot enough to land a professional wealthy athlete such as Floyd, then depending on how you were raised and how much you are lacking professional skills to make it on your own, it will determine how shady a bad break up may be with this athlete super star.

We were not there both times during these alleged domestic incidents so we can not say whether Floyd is truly innocent or guilty of these charges, but isn't ironic that so many of us automatically declare Floyd guilty without any evidence just as many of us declared Manny Pacquiao to be guilty of taking steroids without any evidence?

The moral of the story is this. We here in America believe that a person is innocent until proven guilty.

We should have not declared Pacquiao guilty of steroids and we should not declare Floyd a women beater until they are proven guilty.

Also just as important as innocent until proven guilty watch out who you date and have relationships with. People settle down with the wrong person and it can result in big endless nightmares.

There are a lot of people out there who will just use you for your money, connections, and other shady things.

One should be careful who they let in their inner circle and definitely be 10 times more careful who they settle down with and have kids with and marry.

Fellas settle down with a great woman who is smart and who makes good money of her own so you can have her buy you nice things that you deserve so that she will not end up playing you for your money.

Back to hip hop, I long for the days when A Tribe Called Quest, EPMD, De La Soul, the Fugees, Rakim, KRS-1, Biggie, Gangstarr, the Roots and company were reigning supreme.

Now a days we all have to wait until Kanye drops a new album to save the game all over again.

Just like boxing is always looking for the next big super star to save it and make it hot for the masses once again so is hip hop.

"I met this girl, when I was 10 years old
And what I loved most, she had so much soul
She was old school, when I was just a shorty
Never knew throughout my life she would be there for me"-COMMON
