Vikings-Jets: Five Storylines to Watch When Minnesota Plays New York
Monday Night Football has an intriguing matchup this week that will provide some great football as well as a slew of great storylines.
This one seems to have more storylines than normal, which is no surprise since the two teams are playing on Monday Night Football and the New York Jets are involved.
Here are five storylines that will unfold tonight.
Brett Favre Returns to NY with a Scandal
1 of 5
The Brett Favre-Jenn Sterger scandal is gaining some momentum and was discussed in every pre-game show yesterday before kickoff. Although the scandal was first unveiled months ago, it finally has enough evidence to be looked at.
ESPN NFL analyst Chris Mortenson reported yesterday that the investigation is on a fast track and could come to a conclusion in the next four to six weeks. If he is suspended it could bring an end to his consecutive game streak.
Favre has another storyline in this game as it is his first game back against the Jets since playing there. It is interesting how this story was brought to light, right before playing the Jets…hmm.
Randy Moss Returns To the Vikings
2 of 5
The Vikings welcome Randy Moss to the team after acquiring him via a trade during the week from the New England Patriots. The Vikings surrendered a third-round draft pick in the upcoming draft to get Moss back into a purple 84 jersey.
Tonight will be his first game as a Viking and the second time he will go up against the Jets secondary.
Santonio Holmes Will Play His First Game with the Jets
3 of 5
With all of the other news taking up the headlines, it was quietly announced that Santonio Holmes will play in his first game as a New York Jet. Holmes is coming off a four-game suspension and should impact the offense right away. Holmes was one of the best players in spring practice and will be a welcome addition to an already successful offense.
Holmes' return may not be big news before the game, but it could be the top story after the game.
Moss Vs. Revis
4 of 5
In the first meeting, Moss beat cornerback Darrelle Revis on a deep streak for six points and the corner left soon after with an injury. Sources say that Revis will make his first start back tonight and the smack talk has already started. Revis discussed the last meeting and how Moss mailed it in during the second half.
“He came out full force, early in the game,” Revis said. “In the second half, you could tell he was kind of like putting his foot on the brake. But everybody knows that’s Randy: sometimes he plays 100 percent, sometimes he doesn’t.”
Moss responded by saying he respects Revis, but he has yet to get it in return. That respect may come tonight.
Who’s Going to Win?
5 of 5
The online sportsbook, BetMania, has the NY Jets as four-point favorites over the Minnesota Vikings. This line has moved a little after the signing of Moss as it opened up as 4.5. According to consensus reports 56 percent of the betting public is backing the road team in this prime time battle.
The four points seems like a lot to give to the Minnesota Vikings, but the one best bet that is a lock, is that this will be a great game.
