Dancing With the Stars: 25 NHL Players We Would Like To See Dance

Nick PerriNov 9, 2010

Dancing with the Stars has completed 10 seasons of dancing competitions. In season 10, one of the celebrities was NFL superstar Chad Ochocinco, who was the 100th contestant eliminated in the competition. He was also a final four contestant.

Hockey players compete in on-ice dancing competitions yearly, the most recent being former Montreal Canadian Georges Laraque, who is a skater on “Battle of the Blades."

What about Dancing with the Stars?

This slideshow will include 25 NHL players who would be fun to watch in a dance competition. Some picks will be legit, and others may be somewhat funny.

At the end feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts on the subject.

25. Henrik Lundqvist

He’s one of the best goaltenders in the league, and one of the better dressed players also. I can see him in a clean suit and dancing his way to victory in a dance competition.

24. Roberto Luongo

Another top NHL goaltender that would not be a bad choice for a dance competition. He is flexible, knows how to move and could battle for a spot in the finals.

23. Nikolai Zherdev

The speedy Philadelphia Flyers winger has proven he knows how to move. He has several hockey “dekes” in his arsenal, but how about dance moves?

Like Zherdev, the Rangers center knows how to move. He is one of the better players in the NHL when it comes to moving around goalies in a shootout; can he move around other dancers in a dance-off?

21. Ryan Miller

Another stylish superstar goaltender on the list, Miller brought Team USA to a silver medal, and I think he can lead a team of two dancers to a championship.

20. Derek Boogaard

Hear me out. I know this may be a silly pick, but if Laraque can dance on Battle of the Blades, why can’t Boogaard be a dancer on Dancing with the Stars? He’s strong, and he can probably lift a female dancer above his head and twirl her around for the judges; I think that is good enough for consideration.

19. Marian Gaborik

One of the faster—if not fastest—skaters in the NHL, and he knows how dress well. Get him suit and a partner and he could be a candidate for a dancing competition.

18. Dion Phaneuf

He's big, strong and knows how to move around the ice. A top puck-moving defenseman could be an awesome fit for a dance show.

17. Chris Stewart

One of the better players in the NHL right now, Stewart is young, energetic and has his fair share of moves. Can he be a future hockey and dance star?

16. Scott Gomez

A classy individual, Gomez would be an excellent pick for a dancing competition. He’s struggling so far this season for the Montreal Canadians; maybe some dancing can get his mind clear of his current slump.

15. Rick Nash

COLUMBUS,OH - OCTOBER 28: Rick Nash #61 of the Columbus Blue Jackets celebrates after scoring the game winning goal in a shoot out against the Edmonton Oilers on October 28, 2010 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Columbus defeated Edmonton 3-2 in a

One of the few Blue Jackets superstars, Rick Nash would be another good pick for a dance-off. He has his fair share of moves on the ice, what about off the ice?

14. Andrew Cogliano

12 of 25
EDMONTON, CANADA - OCTOBER 21: Andrew Cogliano #13 of the Edmonton Oilers skates against the Minnesota Wild on October 21, 2010 at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. (Photo by Dale MacMillan/Getty Images)

Cogliano is high on the NHL list for fastest NHL players, and he is extremely young. A young, talented, energetic and speedy player is a good combination. Can he transfer his speed and energy from the ice to a dance floor?

13. Evgeni Malkin

13 of 25
PHILADELPHIA - OCTOBER 16: Evgeni Malkin #71 of the Pittsburgh Penguins skates against the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center on October 16, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Bruce Bennett/Getty Images)

Malkin is one of the top five players in the NHL, in part due to his speed and ability to move around a defender. I can see him as a prime candidate for any dancing competition.

12. Pavel Datsyuk

Possibly the top Russian player in the NHL, Datsyuk has a quick shot, good speed and is a great shootout taker. Give him a dancing partner and he could be an All-Star dancer.

11. Jarome Iginla

The Flames captain is known for his skill on the ice, and his ability to dress well off the ice. Can he dance well too?

10. Vincent Lecavlier

Tampa Bay's All-Star is another top dresser in the NHL. Lecavlier has been a star in the NHL for a while, he even has a Stanley Cup ring. Can he win a dance competition?

9. Martin St. Louis

One of the smaller players in the NHL, St. Louis knows how to move around the ice at a fast pace. Another veteran star in the NHL with a Stanley Cup ring, how about pairing him up with another dancer for a dance-off?

8. Mike Modano

18 of 25

I know he's old, but he is also a one of the better all-time hockey players, and a very classy individual. How about setting him up with one of those Dallas Star dancers and sending him into a competition?

7. Sidney Crosby

GLENDALE, AZ - NOVEMBER 06: Sidney Crosby #87 of the Pittsburgh Penguins skates with the puck during the NHL game against the Phoenix Coyotes at Jobing.com Arena on November 6, 2010 in Glendale, Arizona. The Penguins defeated the Coyotes 4-3 in an overti

I know what you're thinking, "Typical Rangers fan trashing on Sid The Kid," right?

Well you are wrong. I think he might do well in a dance competition. He is young, speedy, knows how to move around and he is already a Stanley Cup Champion and Gold Medalist. How about adding a dance trophy to his award closet?

6. Alexander Ovechkin

The NHL's top superstar is full of moves! I think he can win a dance competition without breaking a sweat.

5. Sheldon Souray

Why not? He's struggling to find a job in the NHL after asking for a trade, maybe winning a dance competition will get his spirit up?

4. Patrick Kane

With those classy goal celebrations and nice suit, you cannot go wrong placing Patrick Kane in a dance competition!

3. Zdeno Chara

How awesome and hilarious would it be to see this monster in a dance-off? Sign him up!

2. Tim Thomas

Another All-Star goalie makes the list. Thomas is very flexible, and knows how to move around the net. I'd say he would look good in a dance competition, what about you?

1. Jeff Skinner

Probably the best rookie in the NHL right now, Jeff Skinner would be an excellent pick. Throughout his middle school career, Skinner was a speed skater and figure skater. Give him a partner, and sign him up!
