Oakland Raiders Shock The World, Chargers!

big ROC Stockton, CAOct 10, 2010

In what is the biggest upset in the NFL this week the Oakland Raiders come from behind and beat the San Diego Chargers for the first time in 14 tries.  This season changing win is exactly what the Raiders and their fans needed right now.  Heartbreaking losses to the Cardinals and Texans could have been a back breaker for the Raiders.  They showed what type of men they are and came up with some huge plays to beat the much hated rival Chargers.

It was good to see Michael Bush carry the load.  He toted the rock 26 times for 104 yards and was moving the pile all day.  He also had three catches for 31 yards.  He set up the passing game for big plays with his power running.  The Raiders running game will be scary when McFadden gets back.

Jason Campbell had his best game as a Raider in relief for the injured Bruce Gradkowski who was struggling anyway going 1/7 for 14 yards.  Bruce was obviously still suffering from the hits he took from Bernard Pollard last week.

Campbell completed 13/18 for 159 yards and a touchdown.  He led the Raiders on drives of 97 and 74 yards for touchdowns in the 2nd half.  Our second half scoring is what costed games against Arizona and Houston.  The Raiders scored 20 in the second half today.

Maybe Jason Campbell sitting a couple games is exactly what he needed.  He took a monster hit against the 49ers in preseason.  The Raiders called it a "stinger" but it looked more like a concussion to me.  You know Al Davis doesn't let anything get to the media without his consent.  What ever it is.  It looks like Campbell earned the chance to start next week.

This win didn't come easy.  Our special teams came up with a couple of huge blocked punts for a safety, then a touchdown.  Nick Miller returned a punt about 50 yards setting up a score.  Our kick coverage didn't allow anything big this week which was also nice to see.

The Chargers piled up tons of yards but the Raiders defense made plays when they counted.  We forced a fumble when they were at our 1 yard line and another when they were in the redzone.  On the day our defense forced three fumbles, recovered all of them, and had three sacks.  On the game winning play Michael Huff got to Rivers knocking the ball loose and Tyvonn Branch did the rest returning it 62 yards for a TD.

This is the biggest win for the Raiders since beating the Titans in the AFC Championship.  This win might be what the Raiders needed to go on a run.  The Raiders are a missed 32 yard FG away from being 3-2 and a Louis Murphy drop away from possibly being 4-1.  We have some winnable games ahead of us and if we do our thing and get a couple of bounces we still can win the AFC West.
