UFC 120 Preview: Predicting Who Will Be Taking Home The Fight Night Bonuses
While you are watching or attending a UFC event, it is almost inevitable there is going to be some sort of spectacular finish during a bout. Whether it is a knockout, submission or an entertaining fight, competitors should be awarded with a bonus to appreciate and honor their contribution to the event.
At UFC 120, the main card will feature a bunch of fights that have potential to be awarded with the honor of earning Knockout of the Night, Submission of the Night or Fight of the Night.
Here are my predictions for UFC 120.
Knockout Of The Night: Cheick Kongo
1 of 3
This bout between Cheick Kongo and Travis Browne should mostly be contested on the feet.
Kongo has a strong kickboxing background, along with a solid Muay Thai background. He holds notable victories over experienced fighters such as Paul Buentello and Mirko Cro Cop.
While Browne is a relative newcomer to UFC, he enters the Octagon with a professional record of 10-0. His debut at Ultimate Fight Night 11 was quite impressive as he knocked out British heavyweight James McSweeney in the first round.
While Browne has strong boxing skills, he shouldn't be too hard for the Frenchman as Kongo will look to use his superior Muay Thai and kickboxing skills, along with his experience, to finish his opponent.
Prediction: Kongo Round 2 TKO.
Submission Of The Night: Claude Patrick
2 of 3
The Canadian prospect pulled off an impressive victory in his debut against Ricardo Funch at UFC 115, winning by guillotine choke in the second round. Patrick, who holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, is on an eleven-fight win streak and nine of them via submission.
James Wilks is a Ultimate Fighter season nine winner also has shown strong BJJ skills, as he also hold a brown belt. The British welterweight has shown considerable stand up skills, especially in his bout at UFC 105 where he took on hard-hitting welterweight Matt Brown.
Should this fight take place on the ground, Patrick should hold a fair advantage over Wilks and utilize his BJJ skills for the win.
Prediction: Patrick Round 2 submission ( Rear Naked Choke)
Fight Of The Night: Dan Hardy Vs. Carlos Condit
3 of 3
In a match up that will determine their status among the welterweight division, Dan Hardy vs. Carlos Condit should be nothing short of spectacular. Both fighters have strong stand up skills and tend to keep the fight on the feet.
Hardy established a name for himself early on in UFC after rounding off a knockout win over Rory Markham. He then had his sights set on hard hitting Marcus Davis, making claims that Davis was a fake Irishman. Hardy was awarded the win via unanimous decision. While he already received his shot against Geores St-Pierre, Hardy still has aspirations of contending for the UFC Welterweight title once again.
Condit has already worn gold before arriving in UFC, as he was the former WEC Welterweight Champion. He has fought the likes of Martin Kampnan, Brock Larson and Rory McDonald. In his fight versus McDonald, Condit utilized effective striking and was more aggressive in the third round, earning a TKO victory over the Canadian prospect.
Look for this bout to be one of the more exciting fights on the card, both competitors will brawl and aim for knockout victory. Hardy is a tough challenger and has never been knocked out or knocked down thus far in UFC tenure. Look for Hardy to counter and land effective shots, while utilizing his strong boxing skills.
Prediction: Dan Hardy Unanimous Decision
