WWE Smackdown 10/8/10 Review: Red, Fight, and Blue

Graham GSM MatthewsOct 9, 2010

1. Edge def. Jack Swagger

-First off, I have mixed feelings about Edge moving to Smackdown, but mostly positive. I LOVE Edge, so I'd like to see him succeed on RAW with his funny segments that has done since the Draft. However, Edge belongs on Smackdown.

I was psyched when I saw him with his glasses and jacket on again, and I hope he keeps it. I like where this face character is going, even with LOUD crowd chants, and I hope WWE takes advantage of it and doesn't turn him into that crappy character he was in early 2010. Here on Smackdown, he can be funny and win World Championships at the same time.

Now on to the match. Awesome way to start out Smackdown with a great re-match from Hell in a Cell. I'd like to see the feud continue though, cause Jack Swagger is a funny guy too when he can be. There was suspense and intensity in this match, with a solid finish.

2. Unified Divas Champion Layla def. Kelly Kelly

-Pretty much a throw away match, but used to get the Divas Champions on television. At least Layla wasn't annoying like they were on RAW. Can't wait to see another rematch between Natayla and Lay-Cool down the road.

*Big Show Promo

-At first, I thought having Big Show as team captain was a not so great idea. But, it makes sense since he and the Miz are huge rivals. I'm expecting next week they get the team together, and God I hope the Dudebusters don't qualify.

I did like though that the Dudebusters get more TV time, but the crowd was dead when they came out because, like Big Show said, nobody knows who they are. They should stay on TV every week and they'll be established.

Overall, good segment that hyped Bragging Rights, along with his new movie, in three weeks.

3. WWE Tag Team Champions "Dashing" Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre def. Kofi Kingston and Kaval

-The only way I can describe this match is mediocre at it's lowest without saying it was bad. Kofi Kingston and Kaval make a great team, so why not make them contenders? Doesn't Kaval still have his title shot?

The time could have gone longer, and now it seems that the pushes of Kofi and Kaval have died and are now becoming very low in the rankings of Smackdown. The only good thing about this was getting the tag champs on TV.

*World Heavyweight Champion Kane and Paul Bearer Promo

-I would have liked it more if Bearer really explained more into detail why he turned on the Undertaker, like bringing up the cement incident 6 years ago. But still, it was an awesome promo, and bonus points for the dramatic music.

I also like the fact Taker didn't come out and attack them, so it gave him time to sell his injuries. I've read that a Casket or Buried Alive match is near, and let's only hope that won't turn out to be as bad as the Hell in a Cell Match.

4. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler def. MVP (Still Intercontinental Champion)

-Solid match. These two could have a good feud if done better than the Kofi feud, so I hope it doesn't end here. The Katilyn-Vickie storyline is heating up, so if Katilyn does win NXT, the fans will already be used to her.

Nice, but predictable finish. Glad Dolph didn't drop the belt here, as I really think he should hold it for a while.

5. Rey Mysterio def. Alberto Del Rio

-Match of the night with some really awesome spots. Alberto Del Rio is working very well in the ring and on the mic, and Mysterio really put him over. A great finish with the twist of hitting Rodriguez, and I like they got him involved too!

Logical win for Mysterio to even the odds, but I would imagine the feud will continue as it is getting really hot. Hopefully, another match will be settled at Bragging Rights and will make the most sense.

Final Review: Good matches and two good promos. It's a step up from last week but not letting the RAW Stars getting involved. Besides Michael Cole. Why was HE there? I can name 10 different errors he had on commentary last night. SERIOUSLY?!

Anyway, Smackdown is heading in the right direction on their new network. Hyping the next PPV was also a plus. Thanks for reading Bleachers!
