Washington Redskins Fans: Don't Count Clinton Portis Out
As we all know Clinton Portis is going to miss the next 4-6 weeks with a third-degree groin separation (I shutter every time I hear or type that).
Much like last season when it ended early for Portis with a concussion many people think we may have seen the last of Portis in a Redskin uniform.
The good news for Portis is this injury isn't season ending so we'll see him in some capacity in a month or so.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The bad news is Ryan Torain is waiting in the wings and will three teams (Packers, Colts, and Eagles) who are terrible against the run.
By the time Portis comes back he could very well be the second string guy.
Even if that is the case when Portis comes back he'll want the starting job and he'll work for it just like he did this offseason.
For those of you who don't know Portis is only 681 yards shy of John Riggins' all time Redskins' rushing record. Portis may or may not come out and say it, but I believe he really wants that record. He'll have six to eight games left on the schedule to accomplish that when he returns.
Will he?
I don't know, but he's damn sure going to try.
As far as next season is concerned everything is up in the air (including whether or not there is going to be a next season).
Portis is due to make $8.5 million, but none of that is guaranteed so I think it's easy to say that he won't be getting that.
However Clinton is a smart man and knows with his recent history of injuries and lack of production he's not going to be landing any big time contracts (and probably starting jobs) anywhere.
I think his contract will be renegotiated (probably under $3 million) and he'll be back.
It seems like Portis really enjoys being a Redskin, and in my honest opinion, he's one of the few "true" Redskins on the roster.
In spite of some of his antics and attitude problems here and there I can't think of anyone on this roster who could fit in with any of George Allen or Joe Gibbs (run-first) coached teams better than Portis.
In a league that seems to be a revolving doors for players and teams there has been once constant on the Redskins for the past six seasons and that is Clinton Portis.
If this is truly his last season on the team I hope we send him out with a swan song.
A Super Bowl would be nice, but I'll settle for the division and good run in the playoffs.
So loyal reader, that's all for now. Here's hoping we haven't seen the last of CP and that when he comes back it's with a vengeance and there is enough left in the tank to break Riggo's record.
