Reasons Why I Personally Australian Exspecailly Melbourne Is The Place For Sport
Most people who live in Melbourne will tell you that the city is the sporting capital in the world, growing up in Melbourne I didn’t really take much notice to this because I assumed every other kid had the same chances to see sporting greatness like I did. Now thanks to the new TV channels and the internet in Australia, I have gotten a lot more chances to catch up with international sporting games such as several Baseball games a week, the Superbowl, The NBA finals series and a lot more of the other major sports from other countries and this made me wonder if the what the people from Melbourne say is true, If Melbourne was the Capital of Sport in the world?
Being in Melbourne for this last AFL grand final has helped its cause. It’s something about the oncoming of summer, the warmth in the air and the coming together of the country to watch this one event. The on bringing of the grand finale, Melbourne is the greatest place to be in. The grand finale parade that brings in over 100 thousand, the Brownlow medal to start the week and all the functions during the week for the respective clubs. It’s also the atmosphere that the city has, everybody has their own option of who is going to win, their own option on who should of been in the final and if the Brownlow medallist deserved winning. The whole city is in an upbeat mood as expectation and nerves swells over the city for the upcoming Saturday.
Till the last day in September comes (or in this case first weekend in October) nobody is ready. If your team is playing, the tension of the upcoming game which every twist and turn and goal scored will physically take years off your life or add several more onto. The flocking of the two armies to the ground as supporters from all around the country maybe even the world show up for the game that has been played at literally the same place from whence the first game of AFL was played. The anxiety in the air as the two teams warm up pretending to be calm and collected even though there stomach has more butterflies then an insectarium, the color and spectacular of the pregame show, the overwhelming sound of the national anthem being played and the deafening roar of the crowd after it and then for the next two hours except for a few several minuets breaks it is absolute tension.
The swaying of the crowd on every kick, the roaring after every goal, the group “ballllllllllllll” after every tackle and the spray of abuse or praise after every decision by the umpire, the chants by the cheer squads wanting and hoping for their team to lift to newer and greater heights and efforts. The players pushing themselves to feats greater than the season before the efforts of the games before them and the knowledge do everything that my help the team because bones can heal but score will always be the same though out time. every emotion that knowing the history of the grand final, that Collingwood has had the most number of grand final second places and the St Kilda has only one premierships to its name, knowing that you must do everything possible or you have let down the club greats and all of the supporters. The weight of the pressure from the game and the repercussions of what losing will have for you. The noise of the ground in the final ten minutes of the game , the triumphs of the winning team and the sadness of the losing team, the joy and history of lifting the cup up and knowing that this means so much to so many people.
It’s this time of the year that puts Melbourne in the top five sporting places in the world, the history of the several games it houses and major events it has held. Personally I think that Melbourne is number one sporting capital like I was grown up to believe but every sporting fan from Manchester, England to Boston, USA would think that they have the sporting capital in the world and rightly they should, it’s just the onset of summer and the great AFL Grand finals we have had that make me think that I live in the best sporting cities in the world.
