What Winless NFL Team Gets Their First Win in Week FIve?
The NFL can be a tough place to win, and that has never been more evident than this year. Heading into week five in the NFL there are still four teams that have yet to notch a win.
As the season drudges on, teams without a win will go through some changes to try and get a win. Some teams make a change at quarterback, and some teams make a change at head coach, just in an attempt to get into the win column.
Things may be looking up this week, because all of the teams without a win have their best chance so far to get a win.
What team has the best chance to get a win this week?
Here are the teams that do not have a win this season, and why they finally could get one in week five.
Buffalo Bills
1 of 4
The Bills have yet to get a win and already have made some drastic changes. They got a new head coach in Chan Gaily in the off season and they recently made a change at quarterback. Ryan Fitzpatrick took over for Trent Edwards and has performed so well that they actually put Edwards on the waiver wire. How did he reward the team for his starting spot? An embarrassing beat down at home by the New York Jets. The Bills need a win and they may be able to get it this week.
The Bills host the Jacksonville Jaguars in week five. Although they are at home the Bills are still getting no respect as they are listed as one point underdogs by BetMania an online sportsbook.
The Jaguars are off a huge and emotional win over the Colts. This is a huge win, but the Jags have always played the Colts well. This is a perfect letdown spot for the Jags, and the Bills will finally get their first win of the season.
Detroit Lions
2 of 4
The Lions have not won a game yet this year, but it’s not for a lack of trying. They lost on a last minute call against the Bears and came up just short in games against the Eagles and the Packers. The only game that they lost by a big margin was a road game to the Vikings when they lost 24-10.
In week five, the Lions host the suddenly surging St. Louis Rams, winners of two games in a row. The NFL oddsmakers at BetMania believe that the Lions will get the first win of the season, as they have listed them as three point favorites at home.
The Lions offense has played admirably despite the loss of Matthew Stafford at quarterback. The Rams are playing much better football than most expected, but are not suspect on the road. The Lions will put up plenty of points and notch their first win of the season over the Rams in week five.
Carolina Panthers
3 of 4
The Panthers are another winless team that has made a change at quarterback. Rookie Jimmy Clausen is the new signal caller in charge and he has not looked bad in his last few starts. In fact the Panthers played well against the Saints in week four and were very close to pulling off the upset.
They will have to play just as good if they hope to beat the Bears this week. They only edge they will have in this contest is that they are playing at home. They may have a better chance if Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is not cleared to play in the game. After getting battered against the Giants, Cutler will have to pass multiple exams if he hopes to play in this game. Due to the uncertainty of Cutler’s playing status online sportsbooks such as BetMania have yet to release a line on the game. Regardless of the line, the Panthers will have to wait another week to get their first win of the season.
San Francisco 49ers
4 of 4
There may not be another team in the league that is having a more difficult season than the 49ers. They have yet to win a game, get a lucky bounce, or have anything work in their favor. Even in games that they play well in, like the Monday night against the Saints, they still end up losing.
In hopes of playing better they fired their offensive coordinator before playing the Falcons. The results were the same. The offense was inept and the defense played just well enough to lose. 49ers cornerback Nate Clements picked off a pass that would have sealed the victory, only to turn it over on the return. That is the kind of season that the 49ers are having.
The odds suggest things could turn around when they play Philadelphia this week. BetMania has the 49ers slated as three point favorites in this contest.
Eagles QB Michael Vick has a rib cartilage injury and is ruled out for the 49ers’ game, and Kevin Kolb, will start. This is the perfect chance for the 49ers to get their first win of the season. They play much better at home, the Eagles are making the long trip across country, and the quarterback situation is unsettled.
The first place team in the division only has two wins, so the 49ers still have a chance to compete.
Welcome to the win column 49ers.
