NFL Week 5 Power Rankings: Where Do the Eagles Belong Without Vick?

Rob BeloteOct 7, 2010

NFL power rankings are a subjective thing and rarely are two peoples' lists ever exactly the same. At my site, www.GuysNation.com, I once again took a hard look at all 32 teams, compared their records, the average points they've scored and allowed per game, their strength of schedule, and came up with the NFL power rankings for Week 5 in the 2010 NFL season.

Last week, the Philadelphia Eagles were in my top 10, having amassed a record of 2-1.  Their offense was going well, their defense was getting the job done, and their stats were very comparable to some of the top teams in the league.

That was last week.

In Week 4, the Eagles proved that playing at "The Linc" doesn't necessarily equate to home-field advantage, as the visiting Washington Redskins gave Donovan McNabb a measure of revenge in his return to Philadelphia.

Losing in Philadelphia both times the Eagles have been scheduled to play there thus far should really frustrate Eagles fans.  It's a sign of a weak team.  The fact that the Eagles' only wins thus far have been against other weak teams should speak to the fact that maybe Philly isn't a great squad yet.

Don't get me wrong, as they play other teams, the Eagles might prove to be a playoff contender.  Kevin Kolb has to prove what he's going to do, as Philly can't rely on Michael Vick, who is down to injury and likely won't return as the same caliber talent he was—at least not for a couple weeks until he's fully comfortable that he's fully healed.

So where did I rank the Philadelphia Eagles this week?  How did I take into account the strength of opponents for both their wins and their losses?  Did I take into account that Kevin Kolb was the starter at the beginning of the season, meaning they didn't really lose their starting QB when Vick got injured?

Did I rank the Eagles above the Redskins or below?  How did I compare them with teams like the Colts, Texans, Buccaneers, and Jaguars, all of whom might have reasons to be ranked better than Philly?

Despite being a Redskins fan, I think I ranked the Eagles fairly... but I'm sure my Philly friends might slightly disagree.

Unlike Power Rankings you see elsewhere, your comments could help persuade me to rank your team better after Week 5!
