Jose Aldo Got His Shot in the WEC, Why Doesn't Jon Jones Get His in the UFC?
I am all for the Ryan Bader vs. Jon Jones fight. I believe they are both tremendous fighters with a very good future ahead of them.
My problem lies with Dana White not allowing Jones to fight for the title already.
White has been saying for over a year now that Jones is just too young (23) of a fighter and needs to get more experience before he gets better opponents.
What about Jose Aldo? I understand he is in the WEC, but he still got a shot at the age of 22 and look at his success.
What about Cain Velasquez? Although a little older at age 28, he has just eight fights?
Shane Carwin also got a title shot on his 12th fight?
Jones has dominated every single opponent he has faced, including his "loss" against Matt Hamill, but he still is getting the nudge from White and Joe Silva.
People can say all they want about age, but everyone needs to remember this, some people peak earlier than others in their career.
What do I mean by that?
Some fighters got better earlier in their career, some later. For instance, Anderson Silva.
He didn't hit his height of "The Greatest" until in his lower 30's. He was great in his 20's but not even close to being as good as he is now.
Same goes for boxers like Manny Pacquiao. He didn't hit his prime until the age of 29 and is now considered one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world.
Jones could be in the same boat, but his prime may be right now.
I honestly cannot think of anyone in the light heavyweight division that he couldn't beat. I don't think there is any doubt that he could take down Mauricio Rua, Rashad Evans and Lyota Machida.
In my honest opinion, all the top contenders at light heavyweight are entirely too slow for Jones.
So now, we are stuck seeing Jones face another young gun—Bader.
I will not take anything away from Bader, but I predict a first or second round TKO by Jones and unfortunately, another "safe" fight against someone like Forrest Griffen.
So as a final plea, let Jones fight for the title. The kid deserves the shot.
