Bernd Schuster: Robinho Will Stay at Real Madrid

Subhankar MondalAug 16, 2008

Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster seems to have burned out the issue of supposedly disgruntled Robinho leaving the Bernabeu this season after he stated at a press conference that the Brazilian international is definitely happy at the Spanish capital.

All this summer there has been a huge uproar surrounding the future of Robinho. He has been annoyingly and persistently linked with a move to big spenders Chelsea in the English Premier League this summer.

So much so that there have also been several reports quoting Robinho's agent as claiming that the player certainly wants to leave the club. This would be to try his luck in the Premiership for Chelsea, the London club now of course coached by the former Brazilian and Portuguese national teams coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster said, "Right now I'm sure that Robinho will stay. For me it is not a problem and I'm not going to worry about it because he is going to be our player. It is not a concern. At no point has Robinho given the impression that he does not want to go (to Valencia).ย

โ€œHe (Robinho) feels well. He is in perfect shape. I don't meddle in the affairs of agents. The player is in perfect form, training normally. He is here to play and will therefore play.ย

โ€œI can only value what he does for us here and he is as normal as ever, as he was during the preseason games. He played well and was happy on the pitch, the same as during training. I haven't seen a change in his attitude.โ€

Real Madrid confront Valencia in the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday and maybe this is why Schuster is trying to pan out the whole controversy. Or maybe because Real Madrid have reportedly presented Robinho with a new five-year deal, Schuster feels that the matter can now be brushed under the carpet?

In any case, Robinho staying on at the Bernabeu is going to be a boon rather than a bane for Real Madrid as they shall try and retain their Spanish league title as well as wrestle back the UEFA Champions League crown that they believe is theirs by "divine right."
