Forrest Griffin May Return at UFC 127 To Face Rich "Ace" Franklin

Dale De SouzaOct 5, 2010

Let's cut to the chase: There's a chance that former UFC middleweight champion Rich "Ace" Franklin faces another former UFC light heavyweight champ in the near future.

Fanhouse MMA reported earlier today that the plan for "Ace" is to face Forrest Griffin on the Feb. 5 card, which has yet to be announced but will tentatively take place in Las Vegas.

When it happens, the fight will see the two warriors come off hard-fought wins to face each other.

Ace will be coming off of a knockout of UFC Hall of Famer Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell at UFC 115 despite a broken left forearm in what was the KO of the Night, while Griffin's fight will be the first fight back for the original Ultimate Fighter season winner since a split-decision win over Tito Ortiz.

That which Ace can expect out of Forrest is the same thing Forrest can expect out of Ace, and that is that the man standing across the cage will be a gamer who doesn't like going to decisions but will take the decision if it means he gets to beat on his opponent in the cage for 15 minutes.

Another interesting point is that both men can finish opponents from anywhere they choose.

The manner in which Franklin beat Liddell may not shock too many people—especially given his recent fights. But the way Griffin took down Mauricio Rua—in spite of a knee injury—and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson did surprise, as Forrest is neither a striker nor a submission ace.

He's just a tough SOB from Athens, Georgia, who loves to beat somebody's ass.

All the more reason to not miss this fight, if Joe Silva can make it official.
