Green Bay Packers vs. Washington Redskins: NFC North Bet Odds

Walker DanielsOct 4, 2010

NFL betting players will be in for a matchup next week featuring two teams in the NFC with the playoffs in their heads as Green Bay heads to Washington to face the Redskins, who are coming off an emotional division win.

Packers-Redskins: Sunday, October 10th, 1:00 PM ET

The Packers (3-1) took their foot off the gas and almost paid for it in a 28-26 win at home over Detroit, who haven’t won at Lambeau Field since 1991. Charles Woodson returned a pick 48 yards to the house at the beginning of the second half to make it 28-14, then sat back and almost got bit. Aaron Rodgers was 12-of-17 for 181 yards and three touchdowns, but his two picks were half of Green Bay’s four turnovers.

The Packers basically lived off an undisciplined Detroit team who committed 13 penalties, and while the defense was opportunistic and forced three turnovers, they also allowed 431 yards against the Lions, who had Shaun Hill at quarterback. That could make some people who make NFL picks rather skittish.

The Redskins (2-2) were victorious in Donovan McNabb’s return to Philadelphia, beating the Eagles 17-12 because of a defense that was locked in. The Redskins first knocked Michael Vick out of the game, then contained Kevin Kolb to short passes, although they were surely helped out by some shoddy play-calling. This was especially surprising since the Redskins came into this game as one of the worst defenses in the league.

McNabb was only 8-of-19 for 125 yards, a touchdown, and a pick, and he was more of a game manager than anything. But when your defense is playing lights out, you don’t need to be anything else.

The Northbet odds will be very close in this game, and we’re thinking the Packers may be a slight favorite on the road—they won in Washington by a score of 28-14 back in 2004. We’ll see if the Redskins defense is ready to turn the corner, because they’re going up against a Green Bay offense who can light up anyone in the league, and they usually don’t make the mistakes that they did against the Lions when it comes to turnovers.

The focus will be on the quarterbacks, and you have to wonder if the Redskins will open up the playbook for McNabb this week at home after being conservative last week in Philadelphia.

That being said, we’re taking the Packers on the road because the 'Skins just played a very emotional game, and you could tell they were really playing for McNabb in his return to Philly. Therefore, they’re due for a letdown, and the Packers would love to get off to a good start in this game.
