New England-Miami: Patriots' Road Woes Will Continue on Monday Night Football

On Monday Night Football the New England Patriots will go up against the Miami Dolphins. BetMania has posted the latest odds for this game and the Patriots are one-point favorites although they are on the road.

Will someone explain to me how the Patriots can be a one-point favorite on the road over the Dolphins? The Patriots are a quality team, there is no doubt about that, and when you look at their offense it is easy to say they are one of the best in the game today. Quarterback Tom Brady can dissect any offense and Wes Welker and Randy Moss are deadly weapons that can score on any given play. The problem is the Patriots do not play well on the road.

Looking for the last time the Patriots won on the road? They won in Buffalo last year and if you count a neutral site, they beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in London. They lost all of the other road games, including at Miami. The Patriots have burned bettors on the highway as they are just 1-3-2 against the spread in their last six road games. So why are they favored?

It can’t be the defense. The Patriots defense is one of the worst in all of football right now. They are young and inexperienced and are still adjusting to the game. The Patriots rank 27th in the league in total defense. That is lower than teams such as the Cardinals, Rams, and the Bills.

If Tom Brady is the reason the Pats are one-point favorites then that could easily be questioned as well. Tom Brady historically does not play well in Miami and is just 3-5 in his last eight starts.

This game belongs to the Miami Dolphins and they need the win, perhaps even more than the Patriots. They have already lost one game to an AFC rival and losing another home game would severely hurt their chances of winning the AFC East.

Quarterback Chad Henne has looked very solid this year and is enjoying the new acquisition of wide receiver Brandon Marshall. The Patriots have had trouble at cornerback all year and Marshall will score easily in this game.

The Dolphins continue the streak of home underdogs winning outright on Monday Night Football.
