Fantasy Football Ahead of the Curve: Sneaky Week 5 Pick-Ups

Ryan LesterOct 3, 2010

If your roster is pretty much set this week you may want to take a peak ahead to next week. I know you hear the phrase one opponent at a time, but that's not the case in fantasyland. While people are struggling to fill out this week's roster, be proactive and get a step ahead of them. Here are eight targets with good Week 5 match-ups.

Shaun Hill, Detroit Lions and Sam Bradford, St. Louis Rams square off against each other. If your starter is on bye next week and  you have a roster spot available, why not beat the rush? You don't have to use your waiver priority or possibly any of your waiver budget depending on how your league is set up.

Tony Moeaki, TE, Kansas City comes off of bye next week and is a solid TE2 that you can stash for when your starter has his bye (or for injury insurance).

Tony Scheffler, and Brandon Pettigrew, TEs, Detroit Lions have both been solid at times. They have a nice match-up with St. Louis. It's a bit risky because they share, but either make a decent plug-in play next week. I'd choose Scheffler if I had the choice between the two.

The Chicago Bears play Carolina next week. There aren't many better defensive matchups next week. If you are really desperate you can take a chance on Jacksonville or Buffalo's defenses as they play each other in a battle of inept offenses.
