Tonight, HIAC, Randy Orton Loses The WWE Championship!

Randy RileyOct 3, 2010

Was it a bold title for this article? Sure. Putting myself out there a bit with such a strong prediction? Absolutely. But I am a betting man and I will put my membership here at The Bleacher Report on the line. That's right. If I am wrong about this, I will quit writing articles! And you can take that promise...to the bank.

Randy Orton won the WWE Championship exactly two weeks ago at Night Of Champions. He will lose the title tonight at Hell In A Cell. It will go down one of two ways:

1. Sheamus will defeat him, finally proving that he can defeat The Viper one-on-one, continuing his streak of victories in specialty matches and cementing himself as a top heel in the company.

2. Orton will win the match but be defeated seconds later by The Miz, who cashes in his Money In The Bank briefcase to become WWE Champion.

I am actually leaning toward the latter since it makes more sense storyline wise. Why give Orton the strap two weeks ago if Sheamus would just take it back now? Better to have Orton lose it to The Miz, who will finally take that last step and become a full fledged main event superstar.

WWE is in a ratings slump. Sure, this past week's RAW was taped. Sure, Monday Night Football and the start of the new television season has some fans changing the channel. But those things have happened before, every year, yet WWE has not seen ratings this low in a very long time.

We already have published reports that the higher ups were second guessing giving Orton the championship as soon as one day after he won it. All of this together gives me good enough merit to stand by my prediction for tonight.

And yes, my Bleacher career is on the line!

Randy Orton's seventh reign as world champion comes to a close after just two weeks tonight at Hell In A Cell.
