Jon Jones vs. Ryan Bader May Finally Happen at UFC 127

Dale De SouzaOct 2, 2010

Yes, you're reading this one right.

Jonny "Bones" Jones and Ryan "Darth" Bader, the two phenoms of the UFC light heavyweight division, may be fighting at UFC 127 in early 2011.

Fanhouse MMA reports that the phenomenal superclash is in the works for the Super Bowl weekend fight card, as Bader will be lawfully wedded at the end of this month and would prefer some time off before jumping immediately into a training camp.

Jones and the Greg Jackson camp would have hoped for UFC 125 for a fight date with Bader, though they've been 100 percent agreeable to the bout, as has Bader's camp.

Certainly, the Arizona Sun Devil, one of the UFC's best wrestlers at 205, will have his hands full with an all-over threat produced by the UFC's Most Valuable Prospect, who is a Greco-Roman wrestler and a tremendous Muay Thai specialist who is capable of finishing from any angle.

One has to wonder if it would be safe to boil this fight down to a classic case of "explosive wrestling machine vs. explosive striking specialist."

No doubt that Bader's only shot at proving this to be false is to improve his boxing and his overall striking game, as Jones could throw a brutal knockout shot at any given second of the fight.

Likewise, Bones may need to keep his takedown defense on a high level, as "Darth" likes to throw leather but he tends to use it also as a way to tire out his opponents so as to score a takedown of his own.

Both men are at the top of their game despite being so young in their careers, but although Jones does have a defeat on his record, he's still seen as undefeated in his career.

His loss was on a technicality considering that before the elbow that landed downward on Matt Hamill, Jones was on his way to a TKO win at the Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale.

Bader has never lost a fight in his career, and wedding or not, he'll be coming off of a Unanimous Decision win over Rogerio "Little Nog" Nogueira at UFC 119 just one short week ago.

Which of these two fighters can do the unthinkable and defeat their yet-to-be-beaten opponent?

If it happens of Super Bowl weekend, we're going to find out.
