Fantasy Football Week 4 Rankings: Tight Ends
Week 3 of the NFL season was a good one in the fantasy football world for tight ends, with some youngsters emerging (K.C.’s Tony Moeaki), and some vets rebounding after mediocre starts (Tony Gonzalez and Jeremy Shockey). But Week 4 means that bye weeks come into play, and you may have to look a little deeper in order to find a solid tight end matchup. Fear not, though—instead, take a look at our Fantasy Football Week 4 Tight End Rankings.
1. Dallas Clark (Indianapolis Colts) @ Jacksonville
Clark amassed just five catches for 44 yards in Indy’s victory over the Denver Broncos. He was targeted seven times, but Denver was clearly focusing on Clark and Reggie Wayne, allowing Austin Collie to run wild. Clark will remain in our top spot, however, because he’s used more like a true wide receiver than any other tight end in the game. He’s also feasted on the Jags in years past, having scored at least one touchdown against them in every season since 2006. In two games against Jacksonville last year, Clark piled up 11 receptions for 134 yards and two scores.

2. Jermichael Finley (Green Bay Packers) vs. Detroit
The good news for fantasy owners is that Finley had a great game on Monday night for the Packers against division foe Chicago, with nine catches for 115 yards. The bad news is, he scored a touchdown that wasn’t a touchdown – it was called back by a penalty, one of 1,287 penalties called on Green Bay during the game. So instead of a great night, Finley just had a really good one. And more of those are in store for the player that currently leads all tight ends in receiving yards. In fact, you can count on one this week against the Lions, who lack the personnel to hold Finley in check.
Point Projection: 13 points
3. Antonio Gates (San Diego Chargers) vs. Arizona
Gates shredded the Seahawks in San Diego’s loss last week, coming up with seven receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown. The score was the fourth of the season for him, and he leads all tight ends in that category. He was targeted 13 times against Seattle, and in part because Vincent Jackson is not around, leads the Chargers in catches, receiving yards, targets, and touchdowns. Zach Miller had a strong game for the Raiders last week when they faced Arizona, and Gates should do just as well as his team’s top receiving threat. Expect him to add yet another touchdown catch this week.

4, Tony Gonzalez (Atlanta Falcons) vs. San Francisco
We were starting to get just a wee bit nervous about Gonzo, considering his startling lack of production over the season’s first two weeks, but he erased that anxiety against the Saints. Gonzalez caught eight passes for 110 yards and a touchdown in Atlanta’s upset win, much to the delight of his fantasy owners (unless they were Saints fans). This week, he takes on a 49ers team that has been brutal in all facets of the game. They’ve also been beaten for a touchdown by a tight end in each of the past two weeks. If Matt Ryan continues to look Gonzalez’s way (nine targets against the Saints), he should make it three scores in three weeks for tight ends against the Niners. The two teams played last season, and in that game, Gonzalez had six receptions for 55 yards.
