Upset Special: Five Week 4 NFL Games That May Surprise You

Brian DiTullioOct 2, 2010

Upsets are a fact of life in any sport. The Vegas betting line is really nothing more than a guess, an educated guess, but still a guess.

Sometimes a team just commits too many penalties and allows the other team to stay in a game. Other times the underdog just finds a way to win a game all the pundits say they should've lost.

And sometimes, the upset is the turning point for a team that's finally found a way to be a good team again.

Whatever the reason—here's a look at some Week 4 games that could end in upsets.

Cleveland Browns Vs. Cincinnati Bengals

The Browns are 0-3 and seem to find new ways to lose games every week.

However, the Browns have held the lead at halftime every week this season and just have failed to make the proper adjustments in the second half.

The Bengals are defending their divisional title, but the offense isn't clicking the way it should be, and quarterback Carson Palmer is making a lot more dangerous throws than he used to with an arm that never looked the same after his 2008 elbow injury.

This is a game the Browns can steal, and they can do it on the legs of Peyton Hillis, and hopefully the pass rushing ability of returning linebacker Marcus Benard.

Chicago Bears At New York Giants

Let's Be Honest Part One: The Bears are 3-0, and in the NFL, 3-0 is 3-0, there are no points for style.

Let's Be Honest Part Two: One victory came off of one of the worst calls in the history of the league and the other came after the Packers committed 18 penalties, including a pass interference near the goal line with less than a minute left in the game with the score tied. They still only won by a field goal.

The Giants have gotten off to a rough start, but Tom Coughlin is pretty good at taking a team with issues and whipping them into shape.

The Bears' luck could run out Sunday.

New York Jets Vs. Buffalo

The Buffalo Bills hung with the New England Patriots last week, and while the Jets beat the Patriots in Week 2, it's hard to break down both teams and say the Jets are the better team overall.

Any given Sunday, as they say.

The Bills are a horrible team, but if they take the great performance versus the Patriots and parley that into another great performance this Sunday, then the Jets will have to play near flawless football—or it's upset city for the Jets.

The story all week has been about Michael Vick and his resurgance as a starter in Philadelphia.

Now the Eagles' former starting quarterback returns with the Washington Redskins, and the Redskins want a win in the worst way.

Mike Shanahan is a crafty enough coach to give the Eagles a game they won't forget, so this is one to really keep your eye on.

The Upset Of The Week, But Don't Count On It

If the 49ers were to upset the Falcons, that definitely would qualify as the upset of the week.

While we're here predicting upsets, it's important to note that sometimes, the lines are right and the underdog is an underdog for a reason.

It would make everyone in San Francisco happy to see the 49ers pull the upset, but the fact is the 49ers are kind of a mess right now and they have a lot of work to do on every aspect of the team.

This game included for completeness sake, but good luck 49ers fans!!
