College Football Questions and Opinions Heading Into Week 5

Willie McDuffyOct 1, 2010

Many questions will be answered this Saturday.  How some teams and players perform will dictate draft positions as well as bowl placement.

Andrew Luck and Jake Locker are fighting for the No. 1 pick in next year's draft; how they play this weekend will have a drastic impact on the minds of scouts and GMs across the NFL.

Alabama looks to roll through Florida as they look unstoppable.

Las Cruces, N.M., seems to be hosting a better game than the Red River Rivalry.

Nevada is the team you don't know about.

Andrew Luck and Stanford Look To Get a Big Win at Oregon

How good is Andrew Luck?  Many have Luck ahead of Locker in mock draft's after Locker played poorly against Nebraska.

Luck's average performance against Notre Dame have many beginning to question his ability to read defenses.  Prior to playing Notre Dame, Luck threw for 674 yards while having 10 touchdown passes and zero interceptions in three games.

Notre Dame caused problems for Luck, who threw two interceptions and completed only 59% of his passes.

Luck can dominate games at times, showing leadership and accuracy that scouts crave.  This week's game with Oregon will show how good Luck really is.

Oregon will be the fastest defense Luck faces all year. The Ducks rank third in the country with nine interceptions.

What Luck is able to do against Oregon will give us a better idea if he is worthy of being the No. 1 overall pick in next year's draft.

Alabama Looks Unstoppable As They Prepare For The Florida Gators

This week, Alabama faces Florida, which seems to be Alabama's second-to-last test this season.

I can't remember a team this powerful since Nebraska in the mid 90's when they had Tommy Frazier and Lawrence Phillips, who literally ran teams over.

The running game Alabama presents to opposing teams looks to be unstoppable.

Florida doesn't stand a chance to beat Alabama this weekend with the game taking place in Birmingham, Ala.

If Florida could pull off the upset of the season, the BCS picture would be flipped upside down.

If Florida can't beat Alabama, the question is who can? After this week's contest with Florida, Alabama's hardest game left on the schedule is at No. 12 LSU.

At this point, Alabama looks to be facing its toughest test in the national championship game.

Can Jake Locker and The University Of Washington Rebound Against USC

Coming off a bye week, the Huskies and Jake Locker had two weeks to ponder and soak in a loss to Nebraska that was embarrassing.

Coach Sarkisian and Jake Locker said all the right things leading up to this week's game with USC. How this translates to the field this Saturday at USC remains to be seen.

After Jake Locker's last performance which statistically resembled a less heralded quarterback, one would think it could only get better from here.

The Trojans' biggest weakness is clearly its secondary; this is no secret as Hawaii showed the nation, torching USC for 459 passing yards in the season opener.

Locker will have a better day statistically keeping quiet some critics but the Huskies unfortunately won't be able to pull out a win at USC.

Washington's biggest problems remain on the offense and defensive fronts. Until they solve these issues, they wont be able to compete with Oregon, USC and Stanford.

This game is bigger for Locker than Nebraska.  How he responds will be an indication of how good he really is.

Texas Vs. Oklahoma Has No Incentives This Year

In what is the most irrelevant Red River Rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas the last decade, most should tune into something else.

This rivalry took a massive hit last weekend when Texas lost to UCLA and Oklahoma barely beat Cincinnati.  This game provides nothing but two rebuilding programs that make many errors.

Although Oklahoma is the beneficiary of not having such a steep climb towards rebuilding, they have looked awful at times this season, barely beating Cincinnati, Air Force and Utah State.

Texas QB Garrett Gilbert is coming under immense pressure as he has looked atrocious so far.  I strongly recommend anyone not living in Oklahoma or Texas to bypass this game on the TV.

You will get a better game watching Boise State pound New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M.

Nevada Wolfpack Flying Under The Radar In The WAC

California check. BYU check. These are Nevada Wolf Pack's last two opponents they have dominated.

Nevada has the fourth-best offense in the country led by senior quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Colin has thrown for 924 yards, 7 touchdowns and 1 interception.  What many don't know is that Nevada head coach Chris Ault developed the famous pistol offense that many teams in college football use today.

With this innovative offense, Coach Ault has his team running on all cylinders.  The Wolf Pack rank 6th in rushing and 5th in points among FBS schools.

Nevada could be a BCS team.  "How is that?" you might ask.

Well on Nov. 26 at home Nevada welcomes Boise State, who barring a disaster, will be undefeated coming in.

If Nevada is able to go undefeated going into that game, Nevada currently, ranked 25th in both polls, will set up a Mid Major Showdown.

The WAC will be on full display with the country watching as this game will take place on a Friday.

If Nevada can get into the top 15 going into the Boise State game and beat them, then playing in the BCS they will.

First things first: Nevada has UNLV this weekend; look for the Wolf Pack to pound it on the ground to set up play action and thrash the Rebels.

Nevada is easily the BCS sleeper of the season to date.
